If you are working with viewports, it is particularly useful to be able to control layer visibility, veiwport by viewport. IntelliCAD has a viewport-specific control over layer visibility.

The keyboard command is VPLAYER and corresponding alias is VL.

VPLAYER controls the visibility of layers in individual floating viewports.  It enables you to make layers that display in one or more viewports invisible in other viewports within the same drawing.  The layer control terms freeze and thaw are used to indicate the visibility or invisibility of a layer in a drawing.  When you freeze a layer, entities do not display, do not print, and do not regenerate.  When you thaw a layer, entities display, print, and regenerate as usual.  You can freeze or thaw layers in viewports you have already created, and you can change the default setting for all new viewports you create.

You can also change the visibility of layers in viewports using the Drawing Explorer.  Simply click the word Thawed or Frozen to switch between the two settings.

Control over viewport layer visibility is only available for viewports in your active drawing.  You cannot change the visibility of layers for viewports in externally referenced drawings.

Before you can use this command, TILEMODE must be turned off (set to zero) and you will have viewports in your drawing’s Paper Space.  You must be in Model Space (MSPACE) to select a current viewport.
