Welcome to our list of free or low cost CAD software. By “low cost” we mean under $500.

Some of the free products listed here are limited-feature variations. The object being to get you to try out the product and get a feel for it. To get more features, if you need them, you then need to pay for a version with more features enabled. In some cases the free version may well be perfectly adequate for your requirements.

This list also crosses over with our list of Open Source CAD Software as open source software is generally free.

There is also a degree of cross over with other lists of higher end CAD software. While the full cost of high end products is also high, trial and education versions are available at very low cost. Sometimes the low cost comes with conditions (e.g. no professional use, small company turnover, etc.) but these versions are well worth a look, especially if you have tried a low end package and want to compare it with a higher-priced program.

The list is interactive. Share your opinion. Add your candidates to the list. Vote thumbs up or down, add a comment, relist and share with your colleagues. We’d love to get your input on the list elements and on the list itself.
