SHEFFIELD, UK (27 March 2006) – LightWork Design, the world’s leading supplier of rendering solutions for developers of advanced 3D computer graphics software, is pleased to announce that Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0, the latest release of Pro/ENGINEER software from PTC, includes a number of advanced rendering features from LightWork Design. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 integrates the industry-leading LightWorks rendering engine and advancements unveiled in this latest release include LWA-Enabled capabilities – giving users access to a wide range of real-world materials available for download from www.lightworks-user.com.

This latest release of Pro/ENGINEER incorporates new LWA-Enabled capabilities, provided by the LightWorks rendering engine. This functionality enables users to extend the power of their software by adding accurate, real-world elements – including materials, colours and other visual elements – to their visualisations. A wide range of LWA material files are downloadable from www.lightworks-user.com enabling Pro/ENGINEER users to create even more realistic and relevant designs. These include a range of essential CAD and AEC materials, as well as product design materials and metals, for example: Mold-Tech and Roehlen materials for panelling, UNS Metals and GE Plastics Visualfx resins.

The LWA format is a secure digital material format, for use in LWA- Enabled applications, which allows manufacturers and material suppliers to accurately encode the visual and physical characteristics of their products. By using LWA-Enabled applications, designers can accurately select, visualize and specify real-world materials and products during the design, modelling and styling processes. The LWA files available include a wide range of real-world materials and other entities, and archives from leading suppliers worldwide. The LWA file format encodes not only the colour of materials but also the reflectance, roughness and transparency, so LWA gives users significantly more accurate visualisations than older digital material formats.

Clive Davies, Partner Program Manager at LightWork Design, commented, “We are pleased that PTC has joined the ever-growing number of LightWorks customer integrating LWA within their applications.” He added, “Being LWA-Enabled means that Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 users will now be able to incorporate real-world materials within their work, providing them with even greater design opportunities.”

Tim Harrison, Product Line Manager, I.D. Solutions, added “Pro/ ENGINEER and LightWorks together make a very powerful design and rendering solution with a strong emphasis on the ease of image creation. Having access to the variety of LWA materials will make the task of photo rendering even more realistic. Pro/ENGINEER users are increasingly operating in a wide range of design industries and the fact that LWA’s aren’t targeted at any particular sector is an added bonus.”

Other advanced rendering features included within this latest release of Pro/ENGINEER are: direct light manipulation, editing of advanced material shaders and management of scene files. Further details from www.ptc.com/go/id
