features that have been added to or improved in Microsoft Visio 2002.
Throughout, Visio 2002 is referred to as Visio 10, Microsoft's internal name for
the new release.
Project Scheduling
Enhancements to the project scheduling solutions provide
integration with other tools and afford significant productivity gains.
Microsoft Project integration.
Clearly display
the status and milestones of projects as Gantt charts and timelines by
importing selected dates and tasks from Microsoft Project.
Timeline/Gantt chart interoperability.
Easily export information in a
timeline to create a Gantt chart, and vice versa.
In-place task editing.
Users can work more productively with the
ability to edit portions of Gantt chart tasks without having to retype the
entire task.
New progress bars.
Visio 10 displays process status when importing
data and laying out Gantt charts with new progress bars.
Improved timeline performance.
The Visio 10 timeline solution responds
more quickly and features more intuitive milestone behavior.
Organization Charts
Organization chart users become more productive with intuitive
layout and synchronization behavior, plus added flexibility in working with
custom property data.
Intuitive new layout behavior.
In Visio 10
organization chart shapes are positioned automatically when dropped on a
superior but maintain their original positions when additional shapes are
added. This provides greater user control over the appearance and formatting
of the org chart. Fully automatic formatting is available through a menu
option.
Synchronization enhancements.
Changes made to synchronized copies of
org chart elements behave in more intuitive ways, allowing the user to alter
formatting of duplicate entities while avoiding unexpected deletions. This new
behavior eliminates surprises when files are passed among multiple users.
Multiple swappable custom properties.
Users can convey
additional information through organization charts with a new capability to
display an unlimited number of custom properties. Enjoy the flexibility of
changing which properties are displayed after generating the diagram.
Office Layout
The new office layout solution provides a quick, intuitive way to create and
manipulate complete, accurate office layouts.
Flexible editing options and intuitive shape behavior.
Users can
resize shapes through a number of different options--new dimension labels
display shape dimensions when resized manually, while the custom property
window enables you to set exact dimensions. Doors and windows automatically
fall in place when dropped on a wall shape.
Helpful right-click commands.
Users have access to a number of options
and operations, such as changing the orientation of doors, through the
right-click menu.
Expanded shape collection.
New shapes such as curved walls and a full
collection of cube shapes round out the library of office layout shapes, all
of which are now organized in an intuitive, easy-to-find manner for easy
access.
3D Directional Maps
The new 3D directional map solution enables users to create
colorful directional maps applicable to small areas and other locations
requiring detailed documentation.
