Some years ago John McIver reviewed CADopia trueSpace for IntelliCAD. Requests for this document are stil very popular. However the situation with CADopia and trueSpace have changed dramatically since then.
CADopia no longer bundles trueSpace with
IntelliCAD and the trueSpace product has advanced wellbeyond teh version that was reviewed. Unfortunately, no part of the review is still relevant. However as interest in trueSpace is still high there is some more inportant information that can be relayed through this page.
Developers of trueSpace, Caligari Corporation, began in 1976 and was one of the pioneers of 3D modeling and animation.
Caligari brought innovation to the 3D authoring process in diverse disciplines including design and engineering, biomedicine and entertainment. The release of trueSpace7 opened new doors in 3D by providing users with something that no other 3D company had ever offered: real-time collaborative authoring.
Microsoft Corporation acquired Caligari in early 2008. trueSpace7.6 was released for free in July 2008.
Caligari's trueSpace7.6 is a complete modeling, texturing, animating,
rendering, and 3D collaboration tool, used by everyone from 3D enthusiasts to illustrators, researchers to teachers, architects to design engineers, and more. The immersive real-time interface allows users to intuitively and directly manipulate objects in a fully-rendered 3D space, enhancing and accelerating the design process.
TrueSpace7.6 was made available for free in July 2008, and is the only 3D authoring product to offer all aspects of real-time design, modeling and animation within a virtual 3D space shared by remote participants over the broadband internet. The trueSpace7 collaboration server enables multiple participants to connect to a shared 3D space to create and manipulate shared content in real-time.
