SmartSkecth LE Review

Intergraph Comments...

Intergraph is very pleased with the excellent way this CADinfo.NET review explains the unique features of SmartSketch in a very understandable way.

In several instances the review references the lack of international standards. We are always striving for improvement and we do reuse US standard symbols in a few of the metric templates. In many countries, the local Intergraph office provides symbols in the preferred country standard along with the local language version of SmartSketch (i.e., DIN for Germany). We ultimately plan to offer some of these international symbols as modules in the online store.

In all of the drawing templates we provide appropriate Imperial and Metric sheet sizes and units. Units in SmartSketch are actually stored in meters and entered/displayed based on the template settings or user's preferences.

In physical drawing templates we provide most internationally accepted dimensioning standards (i.e., ANSI - US, ISO - International Standards Organization, DIN - German Standard, JIS - Japanese Standard, etc.).

The online Help within SmartSketch provides the essential information on what's contained --including standards, measurement system, etc. -- in each template

As for symbols, this depends on each discipline involved. In most cases we supply a US template with the appropriate US standard (typically ANSI, AIA, IEEE) and a metric template with an appropriate International standard (usually ISO as we did with GD&T, PFD and HVAC). As you correctly pointed out with Electrical, we reused the same symbol set for metric, but followed the IEEE standard (somewhat accepted internationally).

The user can also use AutoCAD or MicroStation symbol sets; these can be translated into SmartSketch symbols using the translator module and enhanced with the symbol authoring tools into "Smart Symbols".
