Columbia, Maryland (July 17, 2007)--Nemetschek North America congratulates the winners of the Storefront/Control Group Student Design Awards 2007 and announces the opening on August 2 of a month-long exhibit showcasing the contest's best projects at the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York City. An online exhibition accessible through Second Life (www.secondlife.com) will also display the competition's projects.

Sponsored by VectorWorks, The Architect's Newspaper, Microdesk, NRI, and HIDA, this competition is first in a series that leverages technology to bring a broader understanding of architectural thinking to the public. The grand prize winner received $2,000, and all other winners received $500. Harvard University's Andrew Witt took the "Best Overall Project" prize for his project, "An Urban Hospital in Istanbul."

"We're very pleased at how successful this first edition of the Storefront/Control Group Student Design Award has been," says Joseph Grima, director at the Storefront for Art & Architecture. "We're especially pleased to have VectorWorks as one of our partners in this project-today, more than ever, it is necessary to create a dialogue between designers and software developers to be able to effectively extend the possibilities of architectural creation."

He continues, "It's also very exciting to see how much interest this competition has generated in some of the U.S.'s best universities-the work submitted was of an extremely high standard throughout. We see this exhibition as the beginning of an ongoing yearly investigation into the use of state-of-the-art digital technologies in contemporary architectural practice, a field that is undergoing nothing short of a revolution."
