EOS Launches New Generation of Laser-Sintering Systems

North American rollout Of Formiga P 100 at Rapid 2007

Novi, Mich., March 30th, 2007: EOS, the world-wide leading manufacturer of laser-sintering systems, has announced that FORMIGA P 100 will make its North American debut on May 1st at RAPID 2007 in Detroit, Michigan. Introduced in December, the FORMIGA P 100 is a laser-sintering system designed to be fast, efficient, compact and affordable. FORMIGA P 100 offers manufacturers a cost-effective and highly flexible entry into the world of laser-sintering and e?Manufacturing. According to Jim Fendrick, EOS vice president for North America, "FORMIGA P 100 is not a scaled down version of our successful EOSINT P-Class machines. It is an entirely new design. From the ground up, our engineering team conceived a completely new laser-sintering platform that contains many technology innovations."

"While our large format EOSINT P 700/730 machines have been very successful, manufacturers have stated that they also need small and efficient laser-sintering systems. In some cases, the rationale is operation of multiple, smaller format machines for flexibility in production scheduling," stated Fendrick. FORMIGA P 100 answers that call and delivers unexpected advantages. "Compared to competitive solutions, those that have seen FORMIGA P 100 parts have told us that the quality is exceptional: crisper details, thinner walls and smoother surfaces," Fendrick commented.

Positioned as an e-Manufacturing tool, as well as a prototyping machine, EOS notes that it practices what it preaches. "The FORMIGA P 100 has 23 laser-sintered components. For example, the material hopper, switch cover and pyrometer elements are laser-sintered with EOS technology," Fendrick said. "Our manufacturing team has gained significant economic and technical advantages by using e-Manufacturing to produce this machine. And these advantages are passed on to users of the FORMIGA P 100."

The FORMIGA P 100 offers a build envelope of 8 x 10 x 13 inches housed in a 52 x 42 x 77 inch cabinet. With advancements in optics and laser control, it can produce walls as thin as 0.016 inch. It also features a newly designed radial recoater system that improves part quality while decreasing powder consumption, which lowers operating expense. Building parts at a rate that approaches one inch per hour, FORMIGA P100 delivers functional prototypes and manufactured parts rapidly. Initially launched in Europe, EOS anticipates that North American installations of FORMIGA P100 will begin in the third quarter of 2007.

About EOS

EOS was founded in 1989 and is today the world leading manufacturer of laser-sintering systems. Laser-sintering is the key technology for e-Manufacturing, the fast, flexible and cost-effective production of products, patterns or tools. The technology manufactures parts for every phase of the product life cycle, directly from electronic data. Laser-sintering accelerates product development and optimizes production processes. EOS completed its last business year on September 30th, 2006 with laser-sintering revenues of 52.3 million Euro and thus continues its ongoing growth.
