Icona Solutions Joins Dassault Systèmes' CAA V5 Software Community ProgramAgreement will result in close integration of Icona's unique, real-time assembly tolerances simulation and visualization software, aesthetica, with CATIA V5.Manchester, UK. 10 April, 2006. - Icona Solutions Ltd., the developers of aesthetica™, a unique software suite for real-time simulation and visualization of the effects of component variation, assembly variation and component deformation in manufactured assemblies, has announced the signing of an agreement with Dassault Systèmes, the leading developer of product lifecycle management (PLM) software solutions and services, in which Icona Solutions has become a member of Dassault Systèmes' CAA V5 (Component Application Architecture V5) Adopter software community. As a member of the CAA V5 Adopter Program, Icona Solutions gains access to the CAA V5 software 'ecosystem' that underlies Dassault Systèmes' V5 PLM products, including the CATIA V5 collaborative product development and manufacturing software suite. This will enable close integration of Icona's aesthetica software suite with CATIA V5 and other V5-based PLM software products. Icona Solutions will also benefit from technical support and guidance from Dassault Systèmes' CAA V5 sales, service and training infrastructure. "The benefit of our being a member of the CAA V5 Adopter Program is that users of both aesthetica and CATIA V5 can have full confidence in the integrity of the data that they transfer between the two environments during the real-time tolerance analysis simulation and visualization process," said Dr. John Maxfield, technical director, Icona Solutions Ltd. "This will lead to better designs and to higher quality in the final production vehicles." About aesthetica. Icona Solutions' aesthetica software provides an accurate, visual simulation of the effects of component variation, assembly variation and component deformation in manufactured assemblies in order to resolve issues of fit and finish quality. It presents results using a high quality interactive 3D virtual reproduction of a product so that the engineer can visualize it at different states within its geometric and positional tolerance range, in real-time and precisely as the customer will see the final product. The use of aesthetica gives greater insight than has previously been possible into the impact of manufacturing variation, thereby improving perceived quality while saving time and improving communication in the design process. About Icona Solutions Limited. Founded in 2003, Icona Solutions developed out of pioneering work undertaken at the School of Computing, University of Leeds in the UK as part of a government funded (EPSRC) project. The application of Icona's aestheticaTM software enables designers and engineers to simulate the effect of manufacturing variation realistically on a virtual prototype so that aesthetic review can be undertaken on the virtual model. This reduces physical prototyping or expensive post-production re-design. Aesthetica software can be used at many stages in the design process, in place of physical prototypes, thereby reducing cost and improving efficiency.
