Indiana Department of Transportation Wins BE Award

CAD Training Program Named Top Project in �Well-Trained Organization� Category

Exton, Pa. � Feb. 16, 2006 � The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has won a BE Award for its CAD training program. The award category was �Well-Trained Organization.�

The BE Awards of Excellence, which are presented at the annual BE Conference (www.be.org), honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving the world�s infrastructure. These projects set benchmarks for their industries and showcase the imagination and technical mastery of the organizations that created them.

INDOT has been using Bentley products to create road designs and drawings since 1997. With the department�s migration to MicroStation V8 and the MX family of civil design products, INDOT implemented a discipline-specific and task-specific workflow-oriented approach to training.

�As we made the significant jump from MicroStation/J to MicroStation V8,� INDOT project manager George Brashear said, �we found the custom workflow training approach that Bentley helped institute gets our users into a productive mode much faster than our previous program did. We are confident that future version transitions will be even more efficient.�

The training program and software customization have yielded significant performance improvements for both the INDOT staff and the department. After a week of hands-on support, most users master standard functionalities and some move into advanced techniques. In addition, modeling and visualization skills improve. INDOT, in turn, benefits from improved design plan quality, fewer changes, and lower construction costs.

Highlights of the training program include:

Development of unique MicroStation workspaces, each customized to the specific needs of an INDOT department or function Workflow-specific training classes for each INDOT function, delivered on site Bentley Institute classes for version upgrades and new employees, conducted at INDOT Bentley consultants on site at INDOT Intense support for users at their workstations and on their projects, immediately after classroom instruction Lunchtime seminars on software updates and workspace improvements Dedicated on-site training room Commitment to send INDOT staff to Bentley conferences
