Cyon Research Releases New White Paper on PLM Information

Sharing Study Evaluates JT as a Data Distribution Platform

BETHESDA, MD February 7, 2006 -- Cyon Research Corporation, a leading provider of analysis and consulting for engineering technology markets, today released a white paper that evaluates the sharing of design data throughout a products lifecycle using the JT data format (JT), developed by PLM software supplier UGS Corp.

The cost of poor interoperability has been valued at greater than the entire market capitalization of the CAD industry annually. Cyon Research explores how JT addresses this problem.

"The Business Case for a Common Data Distribution Platform: A Look at UGS' JT" explores the issues of product and process design information in manufacturing firms. This data is typically stored in a format that can only be read by the software program used to create the original files, and is not accessible to many organization members who could benefit from it. The paper examines how manufacturing organizations facilitate distribution of product and process design data to downstream activities of non-CAD users using JT.

In the white paper, Cyon Research discusses the use of JT as a standard for design, analysis, and manufacturing interoperability throughout the PLM industry, as well as a basis for increasing the use of design data in areas beyond traditional engineering departments. In addition, the study examines how UGS partnerships with companies like Microsoft and Adobe will continue to increase this trend.

The study examines JT on the basis of its current and proposed uses and in comparison with other formats.
