At daratechPLANT, Bentley Showcases Unique Offerings for the Distributed Enterprise
Houston daratechPLANT2006 Jan. 23, 2006 Bentley Systems, Incorporated is showcasing this week at daratechPLANT its unique offerings for engineering, procurement, and construction contractors (EPCs) and owner-operators that help them meet the significant challenges of successfully executing and completing engineering projects in a fast-changing, distributed, global environment. Highlighted will be the DigitalPlant portfolio of comprehensive solutions, the ProjectWise range of collaboration servers, the Bentley Enterprise License Subscription (ELS) program, and the Bentley Professional Services organization. These offerings provide integrated tools for each project member in the lifecycle, an information model that quickly adapts to project changes, engineering information management across the distributed enterprise, agile licensing for fast project starts and reassignments, and unmatched global reach to support these multiple project teams. Said Charles Foundyller, president and CEO of Daratech, Inc., Globalization requires new project management skills and processes that can meet the requirements of todays distributed enterprises. Bentley has shown an impressive understanding of the management challenges of globalization and the tools needed to meet these challenges. By focusing on the changing needs of its users, Bentley has emerged a strategic and trusted supplier to a growing number of EPCs and owner-operators. Bentleys DigitalPlant Solutions Bentleys DigitalPlant portfolio provides comprehensive solutions for the distributed enterprise. It includes applications for front-end engineering design, detailed design, engineering, and analysis, construction commissioning and handover, and operations and maintenance, as well as light clients for query, view, redline, visualization, data quality management, and engineering change management all of which can be used across a globally distributed enterprise. It also includes the ProjectWise range of collaboration servers for connecting, managing, and finding all engineering information throughout the plant lifecycle and across the distributed enterprise. DigitalPlant can interoperate with other engineering applications, including Plant Design System (PDS) from Intergraph and AutoCAD, as well as enterprise systems such as those provided by SAP AG. Bentley just signed a global agreement with SAP, under which SAP will resell mySAP PLM Integration for Bentley, integrated with the mySAP Product Lifecycle Management (mySAP PLM) solution, directly to its customers. DigitalPlant enabling technologies include the adaptive information model and the Lifecycle server. The adaptive information model, which implements ISO 15926, allows teams to easily incorporate new information standards and requirements, such as new suppliers, equipment, and materials, into their projects midstream. It provides competitive advantage over fixed model systems, which make it hard or slow to incorporate changes and, in turn, limit business choices. Because ISO 15926 is extensible and, thus, always evolving, Bentley has developed an editing tool that enables it to easily manage and update the underlying information model so that it is always current. Users also can take advantage of this tool to maintain and adapt the open, published ISO 15926 information model so they, too, can keep up with the evolving standard. This is particularly useful to owner-operators and EPCs that have applied this model to their own internal standards for information sharing. Bentley is making this tool available to all companies and projects within the FIATECH Accelerated Deployment of ISO 15926 (ADI) Project. The Lifecycle server provides component state, data quality, and change management. It allows EPCs and owner-operators to boost the quality of information exchange at critical stages of their process, including impact analysis, design alternative exploration, and loading of business systems. Bentley ELS Agreements Bentleys ELS agreements support distributed enterprises by giving them the agility to immediately deploy the products they require wherever they are needed. Because of this agility, project starts can happen faster and teams can reconfigure more quickly for new opportunities. The ELS makes all this possible by granting organizations unlimited access to the programs entire software portfolio for a fixed annual fee. In 2005, more than 30 new ELS agreements were signed by Bentley users, including the following 12 in the plant vertical of the architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) market: CDM, Chantiers de lAtlantique, Hatch, Instituto Mexicano del Petroleo, M+W Zander, Malcolm Pirnie, Minproc, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Praxair, The Shaw Group, Toyo Engineering Group, and WorleyParsons. Bentley Professional Services The process consulting, solution implementation, and system integration services offered by Bentley reach around the globe, providing unparalleled support for distributed enterprises and their multiple project teams wherever their work may take them. Now including more than 500 professionals in 38 countries, Bentley Professional Services is the fastest-growing part of the company. Members of the professional services team are experts at delivering consultancy, training, and support to whatever geographies our users require following the sun, as globally distributed enterprises and their project teams must do. Recent Initiatives at daratechPLANT2006 At daratechPLANT2006, Bentley will feature recent initiatives that underscore the companys commitment to providing DigitalPlant solutions that support the requirements of distributed enterprises. These initiatives include Bentleys Integrated Engineering Group, Interoperability Lab, and Open PDS Utility. Integrated Engineering Group The companys new Integrated Engineering Group, which incorporates its newly acquired STAAD and RAM product lines for structural design and analysis, is charged with leveraging the power of analysis throughout the workflows of not only distributed enterprises in the plant vertical, but also of building and civil infrastructure lifecycles. Bentleys vision for accomplishing this includes integrating design and analysis in multiple disciplines, eliminating the information loss within engineering workflows, and embedding interactive, front-end analysis into design decisions. Benefits to users include reduced cycle times and significant improvements in accuracy, quality, and safety. Interoperability Lab Bentleys Interoperability Lab provides a controlled environment for software integration testing and validation of application scenarios in the plant environment. Bentley will initially use the new facility to ensure the interoperability of its comprehensive set of DigitalPlant engineering tools with PDS from Intergraph. However, it will expand its capabilities in the future to include additional third-party products. PDS users can also take advantage of this lab and actively participate in various work processes using their own data. Using the lab, EPCs can test a variety of interoperability scenarios before committing to contractual delivery requirements on projects. Owners and EPCs can assess PDS legacy datasets for reuse. Open PDS Utility Bentleys Open PDS Utility allows MicroStation V8 users to easily view or export design review information from PDS V7 models. Part of a comprehensive program to support users of the Plant Design System, this MicroStation V8 add-on utility can be downloaded for free at www.bentley.com/pdsusers. The Open PDS Utility is especially useful to those who have already upgraded to MicroStation V8 applications such as HVAC, architectural, civil, and structural design and need to collaborate with PDS users. The ability to easily view or export PDS V7 design review information without additional expense lets teams efficiently and cost-effectively share and reuse PDS data. As a bonus to owner-operators, the Open PDS Utility empowers them to specify their PDS 3D model deliverables in a standard MicroStation V8 file format. This ensures ongoing value during the facility operations and maintenance phases of the project lifecycle.
