CAD Schroer Releases New STHENO/PRO Version 2.0

Drafting Power and Intelligence for Pro/ENGINEER: CAD Schroer Releases STHENO/PRO Version 2.0

Moers, Genrmany - 21 Dec 2005 - CAD Schroer GmbH (CSG), the global engineering solutions provider headquartered in Germany, today announced the release of version 2.0 of STHENO/PRO, its powerful drafting plug-in for Pro/ENGINEER. The company, which was recently nominated PTC European Software Partner of the Year for its commitment to the Pro/ENGINEER user base and long-standing development partnership with PTC, once again proves to its customers that there is real value in their maintenance contributions.

CSG has been working hard over the past year to develop new and expanded functionality for this release, much of it as a direct result of talking to users at exhibitions around the world. The latest release of STHENO/PRO recently previewed at PTC/USER events in the United States, Europe, and Japan, where it met with great enthusiasm.

Unlike other 2D systems, which sit uncomfortably with a Pro/ENGINEER strategy, STHENO/PRO offers PTC customers demonstrable rewards, significantly broadening design options, explains Product Manager Mark Simpson. In addition to seamless, bi-directional data exchange, and the ability to work interoperably in real time with Pro/ENGINEER, STHENO/PRO delivers advanced data management support for Pro/INTRALINK and Windchill, including storage of design attributes, parts and title block information. Easy import and export of customer and supplier data is further augmented by the powerful STHENO/IMAGE raster module - invaluable for integrating raster backdrops and reviving legacy 2D data. STHENO/PROs highly intelligent professional-grade drafting tools (including smart editing, 2D modelling, and assembly management) complete this time-saving productivity powerhouse.

Whats New in STHENO/PRO Rev. 2.0?

New Packages for Differing Needs

With this release, CSG introduces a 4-tiered package approach, allowing companies to choose from powerful stand-alone drafting (STHENO) to a highly advanced, fully Pro/E integrated, intelligent drafting solution (STHENO/PRO ADVANCED) with some exciting new productivity tools, such as the revolutionary SMART Edit tool. Maintenance customers automatically get upgraded to the STHENO/PRO PLUS package, which is extremely customisable, offers Pro/ENGINEER integration, a Pro/INTRALINK interface, and optional add-on modules (including STHENO/IMAGE raster editing and the STHENO/LINK Windchill workgroup manager).

SMART Edit A Revolutionary New Concept in Professional Drafting

CAD Schroer has looked at the issue of design changes from an engineers perspective, and come up with an intuitive, mouse or numerical entry-driven tool, firmly based on engineering principles. SMART Edit, new with STHENO/PRO ADVANCED, delivers results quickly and accurately by providing parametrics on demand - intelligently deducing existing geometric relationships during editing operations. It offers many of the capabilities of constraints-based and parametric systems, without the need to define a full set of constraints. Because of its novel approach, it can typically handle at least 10 times more data than traditional solutions.

Free for Maintenance Customers

Customer loyalty is one of our hallmarks, explains Michael Schroer, the companys Founding Director. We work hard to retain that loyalty by offering customers a sound partnership based on engineering know-how, and constant proof by way of regular software updates and releases with innovative cost-saving productivity tools that their maintenance money is well-spent.

Intelligence in Design

New functionality, free for maintenance customers, includes enhanced Design Objects, a powerful tool which combines 2D ease of use with 3D design capabilities for modelling assemblies, by turning 2D geometry into intelligent objects.

Capturing Design Intent

2D Features further expand STHENO/PROs intelligence, allowing users to nominate geometry, such as holes and boxes, which retain their creation history. A circle would, for example, retain the knowledge that it is a 25mm diameter hole with centre lines. This added intelligence makes editing of selected features quick and easy via the context-sensitive dashboard, and leaves design intent in the drawing, no matter who edits it in the future.

Dynamic Tools

An impressive number of new productivity-enhancing dynamic tools have also been added to the equation. They include new segment dragging technology, and new Welding Symbol, Surface Finish Symbol, Multi Chamfer and Named Window Tools. The products Table Tool has become even more dynamic and flexible, and its new Grid functionality includes the ability to create isometric and radial grids; draw sub and point grids, and set grid origin. STHENO/PROs 2D Measure and Layer Management tools have also been optimised for intuitive design and speed.

Take the Click Test

How many clicks does it take you to achieve your design objectives? We believe that STHENO/PRO lets you get there quicker than just about any other design product on the market today! The updated user interface for the latest release is extremely well laid out and offers direct access to most of the major functionality without the need for time-consuming sub-menus. It significantly speeds up the design process, as well as being exceptionally easy on the eyes. STHENO/PRO features Windows XP-styled icons; tabbed tool boxes, which make efficient use of space and provide speedy access; and a dashboard and sub-dashboard for intuitive, context-sensitive editing. Advanced text handling now includes multi font, height, and colour settings; multi and single line text in one tool; WYSIWYG text entry; automatic numbering; and the ability to find and replace text strings within a sheet.

Even Tighter PTC Product Integration

At version 2.0 STHENO/PRO supports an even wider scope of Pro/E attributes, including Pro/INTRALINK SYS_REVISION. STHENO/LINK has been upgraded to work with Windchill Foundation/PDMLink/ProjectLink 7.0.

Systems Flexibility

CAD Schroers customers have long been aware of the companys support of flexible systems strategies. STHENO/PRO 2.0 is available on Windows, SUN Solaris and HP-UX.

Building on Excellence

STHENO/PRO Rev.2 successfully combines proven concepts and technology with engineering innovation, never losing touch of CAD Schroers long-standing commitments: to create and constantly improve software that works the way engineers do, to offer quality and technical excellence, and to provide businesses the systems and resourcing flexibility they need in an ever more complex PLM environment.
