MEDUSA4 Evolutions: Revision 2.0 of the Fourth Generation Proves Fittest for Design Automation

Moers, Germany, September 1, 2005 - Last August, CAD Schroer GmbH (CSG), the global engineering solutions provider, introduced a dramatically revised and innovative Fourth Generation of the renowned MEDUSA Design Automation Suite, known as MEDUSA4. One incredibly eventful year later, and CSG hot on the heels of international expansion is busy rewarding its customers with the next revision. MEDUSA4 Rev. 2 is packed with new modules and enhanced functionality, including the world premiere of a ground-breaking dynamic editing concept, which met with huge enthusiasm at recent road show previews.

From professional drafting to 3D modeling, from manufacturing records and data management through to plant design, factory layout and electrical design MEDUSA offers a comprehensive set of industry-specific solutions, making it one of the best and most powerful design automation systems in todays marketplace, ready to tackle complex PLM challenges.

Three things in particular clearly evident in the latest release - distinguish the engineering product suite, and its owners, from the competition, and elicit the kind of customer loyalty that spans decades: CAD Schroers by engineers for engineers approach to software development, which looks at design issues from an engineers point of view; the products legendary stability and reliability, coupled with its ability to handle large amounts of data quickly and efficiently; and a commitment to flexibility, both in terms of operating systems, and integration with third party products and data.

Introducing SMART Edit An Innovative Engineers Approach to Design Editing

CAD Schroer has looked at the issue of design changes from an engineers perspective, and come up with an intuitive, mouse or numerical entry-driven tool, firmly based on engineering principles. SMART Edit, new in MEDUSA4 Rev. 2, delivers results quickly and accurately by providing parametrics on demand - intelligently deducing existing geometric relationships during editing operations. It offers many of the capabilities of constraints-based and parametric systems, without the need to define a full set of constraints. Because of its novel approach, it can typically handle at least 10 times more data than traditional solutions.

MEDUSA 3D Unique and Powerful Sheet-based Modeling

Newly adapted to MEDUSA4 technology in Rev. 2, MEDUSA 3D uses a novel approach to modeling, which allows designers to apply their existing drafting knowledge and way of working to a 3D world. Its power lies in its simplicity and ease of use no need to be a 3D expert to achieve impressive results. The 2D to 3D approach, designed to complement - rather than compete with - parametric 3D systems, opens up the 3D modeling world to a whole new set of users, allowing companies to deploy their resources ever more flexibly. The newest version offers enhanced tools for defining and editing 3D models, and an integral viewer with zooming, spinning and panning tools. Resulting models can easily be exported for use in other 3D systems. The optional Digital Terrain Modeler for architectural and civil engineering applications automatically generates terrain models based on spot heights.

Powerful Automation Tools, Add-ons and Interfaces now Ported to MEDUSA4 Technology

Existing customers will be pleased to know that most remaining MEDUSA modules have been ported to the latest technology at Rev. 2. This includes MEDUSAs powerful Parametric and Mechanical Design Objects functionality. And whether companies are looking to automatically translate text on a large number of drawings, or access a library of standard CAD parts based on international standards, the MEDUSA4 product suite now offers all these solutions.

Systems Flexibility and Third Party Compatibility

Rev. 2 also introduces the updated MEDPro MEDUSA-Pro/ENGINEER interface, and enhanced data conversion and manipulation tools, including CADConvert pro, the AutoCAD interface for DXF/DWG conversion, and 3D interfaces such as MEDSTL, MEDVRML and MEDVDA. MEDUSA4 is supported on all major hardware and operating systems, including Windows 2000 (SP3) and XP (SP2), SUN Solaris 8 and 9 with CDE, Hewlett Packard HP-UX 11.0 with CDE, and Linux Redhat Enterprise 3.0.

Packaged for Success

CSG markets several packages under the MEDUSA4 umbrella, designed to offer solutions for specific customer requirements. The competitively-priced base package, MEDUSA4 Drafting Plus, includes full drafting functionality, sheet-based Mechanical Design Objects, a DXF/DWG-Interface, plotter drivers, and Bacis1 and 2 customisation tools. The new package, MEDUSA4 Advanced, offers additional productivity tools, including the new SMART Edit tool, Advanced Mechanical Design Objects, basic 3D, the MEDParts CAD parts library, and MEDUSA4 LDM for local data management. MEDUSA4 Advanced Parametrics includes powerful parametrics functionality. There are a number of additional add-ons and modules available, including the Web-based MEDInfo data management system.

Building on Excellence

MEDUSA4 Rev. 2.0 successfully combines proven concepts and technology with engineering innovation, never losing touch of CAD Schroers long-standing commitments: to create and constantly improve software that works the way engineers do, to offer quality and technical excellence, and to provide businesses the systems and resourcing flexibility they need in an ever more complex PLM environment.
