Jordan, Jones & Goulding Wins 2005 BE AwardF. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center Named Top Project in Plant: 3D Modeling CategoryExton, Pa. July 5, 2005 Jordan, Jones & Goulding, Inc., a leading Atlanta-based consulting firm offering a full range of engineering, management and planning services, has won a 2005 BE Award for its F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center project in Georgia. The award category was Plant: 3D Modeling. The BE Awards of Excellence, which are selected by an independent jury of industry experts and presented at an evening ceremony during the annual BE Conference (www.be.org), honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving the worlds infrastructure. These projects set benchmarks for their industries, and showcase the imagination and technical mastery of the organizations that created them. Commenting on the benefits provided by the use of Bentley software in the F. Wayne Hill project, Karl Christman, CAD production manager for Jordan, Jones & Goulding, explained, Bentleys 3D plant solutions allow us to deliver a more accurate set of plans to our clients, which means fewer construction-related issues. The success of the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center project has shown us that Bentley plant solutions provide a valuable approach for Jordan, Jones & Goulding. We have expanded the softwares use to the rest of the company, and our goal is to soon do all projects in 3D. Jordan, Jones & Goulding (JJG), working with CH2M Hill Inc. and Precision Planning Inc., provided program and construction management for Phase One of the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center in Gwinnett County, Ga. This $250 million project involved moving 2 million cubic yards of earth, installing 21 miles of pipe, placing 90,000 yards of concrete and 10,500 tons of reinforcing steel, installing 50,000 electrical switches and connections, and pulling 675 miles of electrical, phone, and instrumentation cable through 100 miles of conduit. For the Phase Two expansion, JJG again teamed with CH2M Hill Inc. and Precision Planning Inc. to provide design and construction management. When this phase is completed in 2007, the plants capacity will increase to 60 million gallons of reclaimed water every day, or nearly 42,000 gallons per minute. Phase Two is one of the largest public projects ever for Gwinnett County. The plant is one of the few water reclamation facilities in the Southeast that uses ozone as a disinfectant. It returns highly treated effluent to the Chattahoochee River. The design schedule for all four contracts was met using Bentley AutoPLANT software. The end result was a more accurate set of documents, fewer issues during construction, and attendant savings in time and money to JJGs client. The 3D models are also being used by the contractor, with Bentleys Explorer software, to visualize construction sequences that will minimize disruption to existing plant operations and reduce overall construction time.
