GRAPHISOFT CUSTOMERS RECEIVE ACCOLADES IN FIRST ANNUAL BIM AWARD FROM AIA TECHNOLOGY IN ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICEThe Orcutt/Winslow Partnership Wins AIA TAP Award for Use of ArchiCAD; Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Receives Honorable Mention
21 June 2005 -- The Orcutt/Winslow Partnership has been selected as one of three winners in the first Building Information Model (BIM) Awards competition, sponsored by the American Institute of Architects Technology in Architectural Practice (AIA TAP) Knowledge Community. The Phoenix-based firm's winning submission, the Willie and Coy Payne Junior High School in Gilbert, Ariz., was modeled as a Virtual Building(TM) using Graphisoft ArchiCAD. In addition, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory received an honorable mention for its use of ArchiCAD to design and model E-Lab. Submissions were evaluated on numerous criteria, including: quantifiable benefits in cost, schedule, or quality; interoperability between software applications; effective team collaboration; process change; cultural change; and, the return on value. Special emphasis was placed on real-world projects and teamwork. "Collaboration and coordination are essential to the success of our projects. Our Virtual Building approach gives us the tools to interface with the entire design and construction team," said Russ Sanders, AIA, Virtual Building Committee coordinator of The Orcutt/Winslow Partnership. "This was clear in our work at the Willie and Coy Payne Junior High School, where using ArchiCAD for better coordination and integration of information saved time and money. We are delighted that the TAP committee and panel of judges recognized our team's efforts on this project." The Orcutt/Winslow Partnership, one of the largest architectural firms in Arizona, has been a Graphisoft customer for 14 years and has consistently created award-winning designs using ArchiCAD. Recently, the firm was named by the Arizona's AIA 2004 Architectural Firm of the Year in recognition of its management style and ArchiCAD-based business strategy. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has been a leader in science and engineering research for more than 70 years and holds the distinction of being the oldest of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Laboratories. Managed by the University of California, the Lab is located on a 200-acre site in the hills above the University of California's Berkeley campus, adjacent to the San Francisco Bay. "These awards are yet two more examples of how Graphisoft is helping the architectural industry transition to creating virtual building models. We work closely with our customers to assist them in this important move to implement the Virtual Building approach and gain the benefits of the highly productive ArchiCAD system," said Donald Henrich, General Manager and Vice President of Graphisoft North America. "We are very proud of the results ArchiCAD has delivered to The Orcutt/Winslow Partnership and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and the distinction the AIA TAP committee has given to these firms and our software."
