Melbourne, FL -- April 19, 2005 -- Geodetic Systems, Inc (GSI), a leading provider of portable 3D coordinate measurement systems, announced today their V-STARS? Photogrammetry system will be showcased at the annual Control Fair, Sinsheim Exhibition Center, in Sinsheim, Germany from April 26-29, 2005. Gary Johanning, GSI vice president, will join strategic European partners GDV Systems GmbH (Bad Schwartau, Germany), GMS (Nort-sur-Erdre, France), and GSI's European Market Representative NTI (Vitry Aux Loges, France) for the four-day event. Geodetic Systems is renowned as the most prominent solution provider in the field of 3D digital imaging and industrial photogrammetry.

In Pavilion 4, Booth #4115, the GDV-GMS-GSI team will use V-STARS' cableless, lightweight probes to capture CAD-compare measurements on a complete A6 body of AUDIs new state-of-the-art station wagon. The team will also demonstrate high-speed digitizing of complex parts, and capture deformation measurements on a car seat using GSI's non-contact PRO-SPOT projector technology. Control Fair attendees will also get an overview of V-STARS 4.4 software including the ARM module for Automated Repeatability Measurements, and the new interface to Geomagic Qualify V7?'s best-fit to surface analysis toolset.

Overall, Control Fair visitors will get a close and personal view of V-STARS' superior portability and precision. This "go anywhere" solution is best suited for in-place measurement and inspection of large objects such as aircraft, automobiles, ships, antennas, space hardware and much more. GSI's state-of-the-art INCA3 camera offers wireless operation for fast and efficient measurement operations in the most formidable environments. Once the INCA3 camera captures photos of an object's surface, V-STARS software automatically inspects the collected digital images and extracts the required 3D data needed for the measurement task at hand.

For in-depth information on the use of photogrammetry for industrial measurement, GSI offers an informational DVD featuring live video of V-STARS technology being utilized for applications in aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, power generation, antennas, space hardware, and more.

Primary Use of Photogrammetry

V-STARS photogrammetry systems are primarily used for in-place measurement and inspection of large objects in unstable industrial environments, where conditions like vibration, movement, and extreme temperatures exist and pose problems for other types of metrology instruments. Users can shoot field measurements with minimal downtime to others working concurrently on an assembly such as a large aircraft. A V-STARS system consists of one or more INCA3 cameras, a notebook computer with powerful, proprietary V-STARS software, and various accessories. The entire solution can be carried onboard an airplane, or checked as standard baggage... to go from factory floor to offsite plants, or anywhere in the world.

What is Metrology? What is Photogrammetry?

The science of measurement is known as the field of metrology. Engineers, manufacturers, scientists, and quality control technicians utilize measurement technology in their own unique disciplines. Photogrammetry is a three-dimensional coordinate measuring technique that uses photographs as the fundamental medium for metrology. GSI offers the most comprehensive product line based on industrial photogrammetry in the marketplace.
