CANNES, France, and WARSAW, Poland, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- 3GSM World Congress -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced that it has recently been awarded two contracts by Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa Sp. Z o.o. (PTC), the leading mobile service provider in Poland, to audit the performance and provide benchmarking data for its third-generation (3G) network and multi- vendor maintenance services for its Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) microwave radio-based backbone network.

PTC invited Lucent to benchmark the performance of its 3G Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) trial network, which has been operational in Warsaw and surrounding areas since late August 2004. As part of the UMTS network audit contract, Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS), Lucent's services division, a leading network integrator, conducted drive tests, measured PTC's frequency spectrum, analyzed Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and monitored dropped and failed calls. KPI statistics, recommendations and root cause analysis have been delivered to PTC in a detailed and comprehensive report. Benchmark testing is an integral part of LWS' Radio Frequency (RF) Network Optimization offer.

PTC and Lucent are also extending their existing contract for multi-vendor maintenance and support services for PTC's wireless backbone network, equipped by Nera. The original contract -- signed in the spring of 2004 -- is being renewed. Under the terms of the contract, Lucent Worldwide Services will continue to provide round-the-clock support for PTC's SDH network, which handles high volumes of voice and data traffic from PTC's GSM, GPRS and UMTS networks. LWS is providing remote technical support from its maintenance center in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

"These two service-only contracts with PTC prove that Lucent is a recognized player in the services market in Poland and in Europe," said Uwe Klingebiel, regional vice president Europe Middle East and Africa, Lucent Worldwide Services. "They help validate Lucent's strategy of providing customers with a combination of multi-vendor and unique auditing and benchmarking professional services to help improve network operations, performance and reliability for our customers and build new revenue opportunities for Lucent."

Lucent Worldwide Services is one of the industry's most experienced network services organizations. With more than 10,000 technicians, network engineers and consultants, LWS serves the largest service providers, enterprises and government institutions in 45 countries and six continents. LWS also supports 1,325 products from more than 200 vendors. The Polish LWS organization, located in Bydgoszcz and Warsaw, Poland, was established in 1991 and currently employs around 250 people.
