Intergraph's Transportation Solutions Help Manitoba Transportation and Government Services Keep Citizens and Visitors Updated on Road Conditions

Web site helps communicate vital information for highway safety

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 9, 2005 - Intergraph <NASDAQ: INGR> Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today announced Manitoba Transportation and Government Services (Manitoba, Canada) has deployed Intergraph's GeoMedia(R) technology to power its new Web site for road information. The Web site, http://www.manitoba.ca/roadinfo, provides road condition information for citizens and visitors using static and interactive maps as well as textual reports. With extreme weather conditions arriving early for the Province of Manitoba this winter, citizens and residents have relied on the Web site to show closings, travel advisories and poor driving and visibility conditions for more than 18,000 kilometers of highways crossing the 649,947 square kilometer area of the province.

"We feel the site has helped us successfully accomplish our objective of keeping the traveling public and trucking industry up to date on highway conditions," said Neil Gobelle, Coordinator of Highway Information Services, Manitoba Transportation and Government Services. "The site enabled us to weather our latest winter storm with excellent responsiveness and performance." In fact, during the four-day New Year's holiday weekend and the year's biggest winter storm thus far, site traffic totaled 1.5 million hits, the highest since the site went live.

The road information Web site has become an important source of information and public safety. It combines quick generation of reports with static and interactive map display, providing users with information on all road conditions, winter roads, winter conditions, construction and emergencies. Maps can be displayed by region, for the capitol region of Winnipeg or for the entire province.

The site is based on Intergraph's GeoMedia WebMap Professional, GeoMedia Professional and GeoMedia Transportation Manager. Condition events are updated from regional offices using a Web browser, and changes are instantly reflected on the public Web site. In addition, information is automatically linked with an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system that allows the public to dial in and receive the latest conditions using a touch-tone phone.

Aside from standard road conditions, the system is also enabled for reporting on winter roads conditions, construction events, the Adopt-a-Highway program, spring road restrictions, and emergency events that may require a closure or detour. Administratively, if the site requires changes or modifications to a road segment, which may occur during an emergency event, the system can take advantage of the dynamic segmentation capability in GeoMedia WebMap Professional and use the department's standard linear referencing system - eliminating duplication of effort and data.
