Leading Water Utility Implements MWH Soft Advanced Geospatial Technology to Support Water Distribution System Enterprise GIS and Hydraulic Model Development

Broomfield, Colorado USA, January 14, 2005 - MWH Soft, Inc., a leading global provider of water resources applications software, today announced that the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) in Texas has deployed multiple licenses of MWH Soft H2OMAP Water Suite software to accelerate development of and meet the demanding schedule for its comprehensive GIS-based water distribution system hydraulic and water quality model. The programs will be used to guide expansion and rehabilitation efforts for SAWS' existing water system to best accommodate continued community growth.

The San Antonio Water System provides drinking water to approximately 1. 1 million people in the urbanized part of Bexar County. SAWS' population is projected to increase to 2.2 million by 2050, and its water demand will roughly double over that period. The service area for water supply includes most of the City of San Antonio, several suburban municipalities, and adjacent parts of Bexar County. SAWS also provides wholesale water supplies to several smaller utility systems within this area. With an operating budget of $278.5 million, SAWS operates and maintains more than 4,000 miles of water mains, water storage capacity of more than 145 million gallons, an equally extensive stormwater and wastewater collection system, and operational and maintenance facilities throughout the City of San Antonio. SAWS will use H2OMAP as the basis for developing a comprehensive GIS-based solution for modeling, managing and operating its drinking water infrastructure and optimizing its capital improvement projects.
