COAC, IntelliCAD Member, Signs Agreement to Supply Spain's Top Universities
11/11/2004 - An agreement has been reached and signed between the Polithecnic University*1 of Catalonia and The Architects Association of Catalonia (COAC) in order to provide iCAD-T to all four campuses and educational centers2. .-iCAD-T is the COACs CAD release based on Intellicad.-
The use, research and co-development of CAD environment and the extensive implementation in all courses of iCAD-T is at the main core of this agreement signed today between the Architects Association Dean D. Jess Alonso and the UPC Rector, D. Josep Ferrer Llop.
COACs dean said: Other CAD platforms are up to 10 times more expensive without any additional feature. Thus iCAD-T is the perfect tool for teaching as for professional use, and as Alonso explained, the short and long term objectives of such an agreement are to turn iCAD-T into the main platform for 2D and 3D CAD drawings in all 37.000 existing architecture offices of Spain.
Jess also pointed out that This can only be achieved if their is a big time investment in research and development through both parties , as regulated in the signed agreement.-
iCAD-T is a CAD 2D/3D program powered by Intellicad v4. Intellicad is a CAD platform designed by the Intellicad Technology Consortium. The ITC is a non-lucrative organization that works for the development of an open design platform where both the source code an open libraries are of free access to its members through confidentiality agreements- in order to ensure and power 3rd party developing efforts.
Through this agreement, architecture offices that have made the change to iCAD-T will find themselves at the top the labor-offer-pyramid as all students in technical careers will receive a thorough formation on their software.
ICAD-t was launched on the 25th of October. During this first 5 months it has been shipped and installed in more than 1200 architectural offices with a wide variety of licensing possibilities for the end user such as Temporary, Learning, Professional, Corporative and a special licensing agreement for Students, Teaching centers and young professional... all of whom can benefit from special
offers.
The Technical University is an important presence in the counties of Barcelona with Schools and own facilities in the
following cities: Barcelona, Castelldefels, Manresa, Sant Cugat del Valls, Terrassa and Vilanova i la Geltr.
Barcelona
Campuses located on either side of the Avinguda Diagonal are UPC's North and South Campuses. Telecommunications (School of Telecommunications Engineering of Barcelona), information technology (Barcelona School of Informatics), and civil engineering (School of Civil Engineering of Barcelona) bring students, researchers and research centres together on the North Campus and are a point of reference for Spain and the rest of the world in the area of technological innovation. The South Campus houses the Schools of Architecture and Industrial Engineering and the Faculties of Mathematics and Statistics, which share space with the Barcelona Technology Park, where UPC schools and cutting-edge research centres take on projects in technology in cooperation with businesses in the fields of virtual reality, robotics, information technology, mechatronics and bioengineering, amongst others. The Faculty of Nautical Studies, which is located at the city's seaport and is the University's oldest school, is the place of study for students of the various fields in Maritime Engineering.
Castelldefels
Located in Castelldefels and surrounded by the research centres and companies that make up the new Mediterranean Technology Park, the Baix Llobregat Campus, still in a phase of constant growth, provides a place of study for telecommunications engineers and future air navigation professionals (Castelledefels School of Technology). The courses in Agriculture will soon be transferred to this campus (College of Agricultural Engineering of Barcelona).
Manresa.
The Technical College of Manresa (EUPM) and the Manresa Technological Center make up this campus, located in the Bages. It is the only school in Catalonia to teach Mining Engineering, which is complemented by qualifications in Telecommunications and Industrial Engineering.
Sant Cugat del Valls.
UPC's School of Architecture of the Valls, located in Sant Cugat del Valls, is an innovative centre in many educational areas. It allows architecture students to engage in design from their first year on through the Architecture and Design Workshops (TAP), which are a series of semester-long subjects that form the backbone of the school's educational programme.
Terrassa
With 5,400 students, six schools and a great number of services, this campus has become one of the most dynamic urban university campuses. The history and tradition of the Schools of Engineering (the School of Industrial Engineering of Terrassa and the College of Industrial Engineering of Terrassa) is combined with the youth and uniqueness of the Schools of Optics and of Optometry and of the Image Processing and Multimedia Technology Centre (CITM). The Campus houses research centres and laboratories of internationally recognised excellence in the fields of industrial engineering, optics and optometry and textile engineering. Www.ct.upc.es
Vilanova i la Geltr
The Technical College of Vilanova i la Geltr, which is over 100 years old and with the Vilanova i la Geltr Technology Centre, is the institution of reference in the Garraf county. The College offers studies in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and industrial engineering and was a pioneer in the implementation of alternating education, a new educational system that allows students to alternate periods of study with work placements at companies. A large campus library and a student residence hall round off the services provided.
