Caligari Announces trueSpace for Illustrators

Special Version of Caligari's Award-Winning Software Helps Professional Illustrators Introduce 3D Content to Their Workflow

Mountain View, CA - May 5, 2004 - Caligari Corporation, a pioneer provider of 3D multimedia authoring software, today announced trueSpace for illustrators. Built on the trueSpace 6.6 platform, trueSpace for Illustrators is aimed at helping professional illustrators, product designers and artists more easily add 3D content to their creative workflow.

Designed to help illustrators cross the chasm between 2D and 3D, trueSpace for Illustrators features new multilayer import/export to Adobe's Photoshop and Illustrator, and a toon shader for cel, toon and non-photorealistic rendering. Full modeling, texturing, rendering and animation capability is included along with export and model conversion to a wide range of illustration formats. Six "how to" video courses on designing with 3D and integrating it into an existing 2D workflow are bundled with the product.

Direct support for Photoshop PSD enables the rendering of a scene into separate layers or channels, including shadow, transparency, reflection, depth and other layers, providing great flexibility and speed in compositing images or tweaking effects. Included conversion functionality allows the use of AI, DWG, DXF, IGES, SAT and STL formats popular with designers, architects, and product illustrators. Support for other common 3D formats is also included, as is export to Shockwave and Viewpoint formats.

Existing trueSpace users can purchase the Photoshop multilayer support and "how to" video on multilayer rendering through iPak, a plug-in available from Caligari.
