NHTI Chooses Tech Ed Concepts to Provide Rapid Prototyping Machine
Pembroke, NH - (April 13, 2004) - Of the many New Hampshire high schools, colleges, universities and vocational centers currently considering a 3D Rapid Prototyping Machine; New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) can proudly boast that they are right now the only NH college to provide Z Corp Rapid Prototyping Technology to their students. By offering this high-tech equipment to students, NHTI joins Monadnock Regional High School as leaders in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology Education. The ZPrinter 310 Rapid Prototyping System, made by ZCorporation, will advance NHTI's Engineering Program to new heights. Department head Bob Arredondo, says this high-tech machine will finally "give students a way to go from a 3-D CAD model on their computer screen, to production of a three dimensional solid model," all here in the lab at Little Hall. "This will help them visualize CAD concepts better"; parts can be produced to demonstrate how they fit and work together and the concepts can be used in a variety of settings, industries and professions. Students will design a part in the CAD program, and the Rapid Prototyping machine will "print" a solid model of their design, slice-by-slice, often within minutes. These parts play a key role in the product visualization process. After the part is "grown", it can be infiltrated with a non-toxic resin to sustain the part's longevity. There are resins to make the part flexible (like a bouncy ball) or hard enough to machine where the part is "practically unbreakable!" 3D parts are then easily "finished" by sanding, painting, etc. The RP 3D Printer is fast, versatile and easy-to-use, allowing students to produce a range of models throughout various disciplines such as art, history, language arts, math, science, architecture/GIS, the medical/dental fields and manufacturing technology education. The machine, and its accompanying hardware, was purchased through Tech Ed Concepts of Pembroke, where company president Dick Amarosa is an NHTI graduate. With his company's product, Amarosa hopes technology students across the country will finally be able to hold their ideas in the palm of their hands. "As a former technology educator for 30+ years, I am thrilled to offer what I believe is one of the most revolutionary technologies that has ever been available to educators!" Says Amarosa.
