SAN JOSE, Calif., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Agile Software Corporation (NASDAQ:AGIL), a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, today announced that Handtmann Metallgusswerk and Handtmann Maschinenfabrik, the automotive and food processing divisions of the Handtmann Group, have selected Agile as their PLM solution provider. The Handtmann divisions selected Agile to provide PLM capabilities while creating an integrated IT environment for improved productivity. The initial implementation -- which combines centralized viewing, document and change management -- went into production at the end of January, only three months after the implementation start date.

"Manufacturers worldwide are increasingly seeking a flexible, scalable way of managing their product record across their extended enterprise in order to control their increasingly complex business environment," said Gisela Wilson, director, Product Lifecycle Management Solutions, IDC. "Benefits from PLM solutions include improved innovation management, more efficient intra- and inter-company collaboration, faster time to market, cost reductions, and higher product quality. The Agile implementation at two divisions of German-based Handtmann Group is an excellent example of Agile's continued expansion into the automotive and industrial equipment market as well as their expanding presence within Europe."

In business for more than 125 years and headquartered in Biberach, Germany, the Handtmann Group employs nearly 2000 people across its five worldwide divisions. Handtmann Metallgusswerk, the company's automotive division, supplies die cast automotive parts and components. Handtmann Maschinenfabrik manufactures food-processing equipment for the sausage industry.

Handtmann Maschinenfabrik replaced its former EDS system with Agile PLM, opting for the flexibility of Agile and its ability to integrate with multiple business applications, such as CAD and ERP, to create a central, enterprise product record. Moving forward, Agile will create cross-functional best practices by integrating sales and marketing into the PLM process.

"Employing Agile's PLM solutions will allow Handtmann Maschinenfabrik to reduce the number of systems used to track our Unigraphics and Microsoft office files, and in the future, will provide us with Baan integration and powerful workflow capabilities for modeling our business processes," said Erwin Muller, head of IT at Handtmann Maschinenfabrik. "Agile's solutions are based on best practices developed through time and experience. The result is functionality that solves our data management needs today, while providing us a platform for future growth."

To fulfill critical product requirements, Handtmann Metallgusswerk relies on seamless information exchange with OEM customers, such as Volkswagen and Daimler-Chrysler. Prior to implementing Agile, the division relied heavily on the manual exchange of paper-based CAD drawings, which often caused delays. Today, 3D CAD files can be viewed, altered and redistributed from the Agile system, reducing the risk of version control problems.

"Agile PLM is the best solution for managing our CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER and Microsoft Office information across and outside our enterprise," said Christiane Winghart, head of IT at Handtmann Metallgusswerk. "Agile's expanded expertise in automotive PLM by way of the Eigner acquisition will help Handtmann become more competitive, while enabling us to ensure high levels of product quality."

"Handtmann is a respected European manufacturer, and we are pleased to welcome them into the Agile family," said Jay Fulcher, chief operating officer, Agile. "Handtmann is an important customer proof point, as one of our best success stories following the integration of Agile and Eigner. We are committed to leveraging our combined company strengths to help Handtmann continue a long tradition of excellence in manufacturing."
