The CAD Society Announces Its 2004 Award for LeadershipTony Affuso, president and CEO of UGS PLM Solutions, to receive award at COFES2004
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., March 11, 2004 The CAD Society, a not-for-profit CAD industry association, today announced the winner of the 2004 CAD Society Award for Leadership. The recipient of this years award is Tony Affuso, president and CEO of UGS PLM Solutions, the product lifecycle management subsidiary of EDS. The award will be presented at a ceremony on April 3 at COFES2004: The Congress on the Future of Engineering Software, being held in Scottsdale, Arizona. The CAD Society Award for Leadership is awarded to an individual in the CAD industry whose outstanding technical and/or business leadership over the past year has significantly contributed to the benefit of CAD community. Tony Affuso was selected to receive this years award for his leadership in navigating one of the most complex transitions in the history of the CAD industry: the merging of UGS with SDRC, said Joe Greco, president of the CAD Society. Both companies had competing solutions in the CAD space (as well as the PDM arena). Affusos solution to gradually merge the two programs allowed their users an easier transition to a next generation platform NX a software product which had a significant impact on the companys 13% year-over-year revenue growth in the second half of 2003. This was more than just a significant technical challenge. Affuso led this effort while considering a wide diversity of compelling customer requirements. His nomination was the one that stood out as clearly the most notable for this years Leadership Award. Prior to his firms acquisition by EDS, Affuso was president and CEO of Unigraphics Solutions Inc. (UGS), a publicly traded company on the NYSE. Affuso was engaged in the sales, service and development of software technology to support the automation of product engineering and manufacturing engineering processes. The CAD Society Industry Awards recognize the contributions of individuals within the Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and engineering software industry. CAD and related engineering software applications are used in the design of buildings, automobiles, consumer goods, and just about every manufactured product in the market today. The CAD Society also presents awards in two other categories: Community For outstanding work in improving communication and developing community within the CAD industry. Past award recipients include Kristine Fallon, Amy Rowell, Ralph Grabowski and C.J. Shirk. Lifetime For a lifetime of outstanding technical and business contributions to the CAD industry. Past award recipients include Patrick Hanratty, Jason Lemon, Joel Orr and Carl Machover. The winner of this award will be announced at COFES2004, to be held April 1-4, 2004.
