Alias Releases Data Exchange Tool for CATIA V5 Direct Connect Software Links High-End CAD with Leading Industrial Design Software
Toronto, Canada, March 2, 2004 - Alias, an SGI (NYSE: SGI) company, announced today that it has released Alias? CATIA? V5 Direct Connect, an import-export tool that optimizes communication between Alias StudioToolsTM computer-aided industrial design (CAID) software and the CATIA V5 CAD system produced by Spatial Corporation. Seamless Integration The new Alias Direct Connect software improves production efficiency and preserves design intent by providing an exchange of CATIA data without having to translate to a neutral file format. The native transfer process enables designers to accurately take into account technical and mechanical constraints, and allows engineers to easily use StudioTools surface data for studies, model development and engineering work. Faster Product Development "CATIA V5 Direct Connect was developed in partnership with Spatial specifically for the needs of designers and modellers using CATIA V5 and StudioTools," explains Paul Dyck, Design Product Marketing Manager for Alias. "Our goal is to tightly integrate the flow of information between the two programs so that designers are able to efficiently use CATIA data as a reference for design work, and ultimately to shorten the time-to-market product cycle." Two-Way Data Transfer CATIA V5 Direct Connect is available for all the products in the StudioTools family which includes Alias AutoStudioTM, Alias SurfaceStudio?, Alias StudioTM and Alias DesignStudio?. The software opens CATIA part or assembly files in StudioTools and saves StudioTools data in CATIA V5 format. This bi-directional exchange eliminates two translations to neutral format in each direction and avoids the need to train StudioTools users on how to do CATIA V5 translations.
