Lansing (Michigan) Board of Water and Light to Deploy Intergraph Outage Management SystemIntergraph pairs with KEMA Consulting to integrate InService with existing GIS to provide efficient outage prediction and responseHUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 25, 2004 - Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today announced Lansing (Michigan) Board of Water and Light (BWL) has purchased Intergraph's Outage Management System (OMS), based on InService(TM) technology, to interface with its current GE Networks geographic information system (GIS). KEMA Consulting will provide the integration services between GE Smallworld and Intergraph's OMS. A municipal utility, BWL is responsible for providing electricity, steam and related services to 98,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers and water to 55,000 customers throughout the Greater Lansing area. As the third-largest electric utility and the largest municipally-owned utility in Michigan, BWL is known for the high reliability of its service and electric rates that are among the lowest in the state. With the implementation of the InService OMS, BWL will be able to serve its customers even more effectively. Offering automated outage predictions using electric network connectivity, the InService OMS will help BWL replace its manual method of predicting outage locations, dispatching crews, transferring work between departments and producing reliability reports. InService will also provide Web-based calltaking for trouble calls, eliminating the need for integration with BWL's mainframe customer information system. In addition, BWL will be able to more efficiently deploy field resources by using map-based dispatching to select the best resource for assignments. According to Tim Palmer, Manager - System Operations, Records Management & Bulk Power, Lansing Board of Water and Light, "With its interactive graphical map and Web support for calltaking, the InService solution ideally matches our solution requirements. The implementation will enable our employees to continue supplying our customers with the affordable, reliable service they've come to expect." Arthur Spencer, Executive Vice President of Geospatial Solutions, Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions, said, "We're extremely pleased to be selected by such a dynamic company that continuously strives to enhance its already high record of service reliability and customer satisfaction. With the addition of InService, Lansing Board of Water and Light can further enhance customer service by managing day-to-day network operations more efficiently and reducing restoration time during power outages." http://www1.kemaconsulting.com Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions is a leading geospatial solutions provider for the following markets: local, state and federal government; transportation; utilities; communications; location-based services; photogrammetry; remote sensing; cartography; and military and intelligence.
