Felix GmbH Joins Open Design Alliance as Founding-level MemberFuture generations of popular FelixCAD and CeCAD products to support OpenDWG 2005+ standardPHOENIX, AZ, February 3, 2004 - The Open Design Alliance, a non-profit industry consortium committed to promoting open industry-standard formats for the exchange of CAD data, today announced that Felix GmbH has joined as a founding member of the Alliance. Felix GmbH develops affordable Windows-based CAD software products that provide a high level of compatibility with AutoCAD, both in data, and in operation. Its products and services are targeted at small- to medium-sized enterprises and individuals with limited resources but a need for high-performance software tools, but they have also found favor in larger organizations and in OEM applications. "Wilfried Graebert, the founder of Felix, was a pioneer in the DWG-compatible CAD market,” said Evan Yares, president of the Open Design Alliance. “As a founding-level member of the Alliance, Felix will be working closely with us in the further development and optimization of out software tools, including DWGdirect – our advanced program library supporting the OpenDWG 2005 standard.” Felix is one of the first companies to have developed a DWG-compatible AutoCAD “workalike” product. Felix has two main product lines: FelixCAD, which is an AutoCAD workalike product running under Microsoft Windows, and CeCAD, which runs on the PocketPC under Microsoft WindowsCE. Felix’s existing products are based on the OpenDWG Toolkit, the Alliance’s widely-used C language program library, which provides DWG, DXF, and DWF compatibility with versions of AutoCAD up 2002. As a founding member of the Alliance, Felix will start working with DWGdirect, the Alliance’s advanced object-oriented program library, which provides data compatibility with versions of AutoCAD up to and including the soon-to-be-released version 2005.
