Berliner Kreis Becomes Associated Member of the ProSTEP iViP AssociationDarmstadt, 20 January 2004 –Berliner Kreis is a new member of ProSTEP iViP Association. His work emphasis – the development of methods and technologies for product creation as well as knowledge transfer to the industry – accompanies the subjects of the Association. With this new cooperation, both organizations aim to intensify the communication of project results within the area of product data integration. Through its membership, the Berliner Kreis expects an additional platform for the collaboration between industry and science as well as impulses for using information technology to design product innovation processes within the field of engineering and related sectors like automotive engineering. About Berliner Kreis Berliner Kreis – Wissenschaftliches Forum für Produktentwicklung e.V. – was set up by Prof. Wolfgang Beitz in June 1993 in Berlin. Berliner Kreis currently employs some 25 university professors, who provide decisive impetus in the areas of product development/development methodology and information technology in product development processes. Berliner Kreis focuses its attention on the development of technologically advanced industrial products primarily in the sectors of mechanical engineering and industrial projects, electrical engineering and automotive engineering as well as on relevant engineering activities. Berliner Kreis wants to tailor its research and training activities more intensively on the stark challenges facing industry and to support businesses in the development of products for tomorrow's markets. In this context, Berliner Kreis is working particularly closely with a group of leading representatives of German industry. About the ProSTEP iViP Association The aim of the ProSTEP iViP Association is to define solutions for the challenges facing the manufacturing industry as a result of networked collaboration in a worldwide development network. The concept of a coherent, transcompany view of data, processes and systems provides a solid foundation for meeting this challenge. The Association concerns itself not only with the standardization of product data (ISO 10303 STEP: Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) but is also addressing issues relating to IT development, system architecture and, above all, process engineering. The Association is also a shareholder in PROSTEP AG, whose task is to implement the new ISO standard as quickly as possible for products and services available in the market. ProSTEP AG has a current headcount of over 170 employees and posted revenues of approximately € 12.4 million in 2002. The ProSTEP iViP Association is headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, and was founded in October 1993 by 38 industrial companies and a number of system vendors as part of the German STEP initiative. Members of the ProSTEP iViP Association currently include over 200 companies and organizations from 17 nations.
