Toronto Transit Consolidates Systems With IFS Applications

CHICAGO, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has signed a 7.9 million CAD ($5.3 million USD) contract to implement IFS Applications. The new system will replace in-house developed legacy systems, mainly for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) and materials inventory management.

TTC operates the third-largest urban transit system in North America, including the City of Toronto's subway, buses, streetcars and Wheel-Trans transit system for people with disabilities.

TTC is replacing five maintenance and support systems with one integrated system. This will allow TTC to more quickly predict and correct maintenance problems that impact revenue. IFS was selected primarily because of its solid work-order system with full work-order transaction history, corporate performance management and OLAP analysis tools, and strong rail configuration management capabilities.

The rail and transit industry is one of IFS' targeted vertical market segments based on the advanced MRO capabilities in IFS Applications. The company offers a complete rail and transit solution that optimizes planning and forecasting, improves operational efficiency and control in day-to-day operations, and integrates asset and maintenance management with operations control, financials, workforce management, and business intelligence.

Existing IFS customers include rail systems such as Norwegian State Railways, Oslo Transit, Swemaint in Sweden, Siemens Rail Services in Australia, Landerbahn in Germany, and Krakow Transit Authority. In addition, Siemens Transportation Systems Integrated Services (Siemens TS IS), which provides operations and maintenance services for rolling stock and rail infrastructure worldwide, has selected IFS Applications as its standard maintenance management solution. Under the agreement, IFS will deliver IFS Applications to handle service and maintenance for rail systems supplied by Siemens TS with Sky Train and Dispolok in Germany being the first deliveries. With 13% of the world market for services and maintenance systems, IFS is the market leader.*

"With customers in North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region, IFS is playing an increasingly important role in urban transit systems around the world," said Trudie Carlesso, president of IFS Canada. "We're doing it by offering a completely integrated solution that provides companies with the ability to quickly reduce costs, improve profitability, and expand operations.

"Also, TTC and IFS will be collaborating to share ideas, and we believe TTC's methods of managing maintenance, which have been developed and refined over the past 15 years, will strengthen IFS' offering in this industry."
