New Multiphysics Tools FEATURED In ALGOR V14.2
PITTSBURGH, PA - December 18, 2003 - ALGOR, Inc., a leading provider of design, analysis and simulation software, announced the release of ALGOR V14.2, a new version of its FEA software that introduces coupled multiphysics capabilities for simulating natural, forced or mixed convection; support for non-Newtonian fluids; a new rigid element; and other changes based on customer feedback. "ALGOR V14.2 will enable engineers to accurately simulate a wide range of convection and fluid flow scenarios," said ALGOR Product Manager Bob Williams. "This new release allows users to look at applications in which the direct interaction of thermal and fluid effects is of engineering importance, such as electronics cooling, and to include variable-viscosity or non-Newtonian fluids." "When optimizing engine components such as exhaust and intake silencers, we always need to identify and understand areas of high flow restriction which result in undesirable pressure drop due to the influence of both thermal and fluid effects," said Steven Mattson of Great Lakes Sound and Vibration. "ALGOR's new coupled heat transfer and fluid flow capabilities will enable me to easily obtain combined thermal and fluid results from a single analysis process." In addition, ALGOR V14.2 features: * new temperature-dependent viscosity and power-law viscosity capabilities for non-Newtonian fluids that enable engineers to simulate highly viscous and variable-viscosity fluids * a new rigid element for linear static stress analysis * NASTRAN support for rigid elements and linear contact * the capability to combine the results from linear static and dynamic analysis in the Superview IV Results environment * the capability to specify a tensile or compressive breaking stress for general contact elements in a Mechanical Event Simulation (MES) * improved automation of input options for surface-to-surface contact in an MES * improved support for thermal loads on linear plate elements * enhanced assembly meshing with improved handling of small tolerances between parts * over 15 additional enhancements based on customer feedback ALGOR customers with a current software upgrade subscription for these products will get these new capabilities automatically through the software update wizard.
