Emerson Expands Solid Edge Computer-Aided Design Standardization Across 11 more Global Sites

e-Engineering initiative replaces multiple disparate CAD systems to reduce time to market for broad range of Emerson products

PLANO, Texas 2 Sept 2003 - EDS today announced that its Solid Edge computer-aided design (CAD) software has been expanded into 11 new Emerson sites among multiple company divisions around the world. With seven units already using Solid Edge, that brings to 18 the number of sites modernizing its CAD systems under Emersons global e-Engineering initiative launched in 2001.

Emerson added Solid Edge to sites in India, China, Slovakia, the Netherlands, the United States and Canada. The new software replaces several different CAD systems.

In April 2002, EDS announced that Emerson had selected Solid Edge for CAD and Teamcenter product lifecycle management (PLM) software as part of the companys global e-Engineering initiative designed to implement common technologies across the company. The selection followed a comprehensive, year-long evaluation of multiple systems.

"We are seeing quick success with the e-Engineering initiative as disparate CAD systems are retired and Emerson standardizes on Solid Edge. Our teams goal is to leverage Emerson's global engineering resources to provide such benefits as increased productivity, reduced time-to-market and enhanced processes within our engineering services organization," said Dr. Randall Ledford, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Emerson.

Success with Solid Edge across multiple divisions includes St. Louis, Missouri-based White-Rodgers and Columbus, Ohio-based Liebert Corp.

"We have been using Solid Edge for six years with continued success," said Tom Fredricks, vice president of engineering for White-Rodgers, a global market leader in the design and production of temperature regulation and gas flow/ignition controls for the HVAC and appliance industries.

"Solid Edge has global acceptance and sharing CAD data with other Emerson divisions, or our suppliers, is seamless. As we expand our engineering departments in China and India, one of the first things we do is train them in Solid Edge. Most of the time these engineers have already been using the tool."

"At Liebert we selected Solid Edge in 1997," said Jack Beeckman, manager of CADD support administrators at Columbus, Ohio-based Liebert Corp. "Our goal was to match our global design needs with an easy to use, productive tool. Solid Edge has proved to be just that so we can concentrate on being experts in the field of power and air conditioning design instead of being experts of a more difficult to use CAD system. Working with the Solid Edge design team and support staff has been like having our own software company working to give us what we need, when we need it," said Beeckman, who also serves as the chairman of the global Solid Edge User Group.

New Solid Edge implementations include Emerson Network Power and Emerson Design Engineering Center in India; Emerson Network Power in Shenzhen, China and Emerson Motor Technologies in QingDao, China; Liebert Hiross in Slovakia; Emerson Valve Automation divisions Bettis Valve in the United States and Canada and El-O-Matic in the Netherlands; and Shafer Valve, Emerson Power Transmission and Rosemount Analytical in the United States.

The sites join existing Solid Edge implementations at Liebert, Buehler, Ridge Tool, White-Rodgers, Therm-O-Disc, Fusite and Emerson Motor Technologies.
