PTC's Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Propels PowerSki Igniter 2000

Patented Motorized Surfboard Inaugurates "Just-In-Time" Mass Production with PTC's Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire and Windchill ProjectLink

Needham, Mass.-- August 21, 2003 - PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), today announced that PowerSki International Corporation has achieved "just-in-time" mass production for its new PowerSki Igniter 2000 motorized surfboard through the use of PTC's new Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire product design and development software and Windchill ProjectLink Web collaboration solution.

The PowerSki Igniter 2000 Jetboard is a motorized wakeboard, a cross between a high-performance surfboard and a competition water-ski/wakeboard. The design and packaging for the Igniter 2000 was made possible by the use of Pro/ENGINEER� and its industrial design, detailed design, simulation, and production capabilities. "We are in the process of designing our complete Jetboard in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire," said PowerSki's Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Jim Habig, "and we are using its Behavior Modeling and simulation capabilities to analyze and optimize our Jetboard. PTC's software solutions have added tremendous value and effectiveness to our organization. Working with Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire and Pro/INTRALINK� 3. 3, we are able to design, analyze, and produce components and assemblies in a short period of time across many boundaries."

"PTC's software solutions allow our different design teams to have access to the latest information, to track changes throughout the design process, to rapidly prototype new components, and to design new products thanks to the tight integration between Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire and Windchill ProjectLink for collaboration with design partners," Habig adds. We are able to check clearance and interference situations before assembly, identify problem areas, and correct them before we build prototypes and commit to production. This ensures that we build the parts correctly the first time. We have used Pro/ENGINEER to model our engine, transmission, hull, and handle."

Using Pro/ENGINEER to design and visualize the components, versus using manual drawings, decreased PowerSki's design time by 90 percent. By using the manufacturing capability of Pro/ENGINEER, the company was able to machine engine components directly from the Pro/ENGINEER designs, which cut 30 hours from the machining time of each part.
