Xi Graphics, Inc. Supports Intel i830 Image Overlay Plane in Laptops

Enables Popular CAD/CAM Workstation Feature on Many Notebooks

DENVER, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Xi Graphics, Inc. announced today that it has released commercial-off-the-shelf Linux and Solaris (on Intel) graphics drivers that support the hardware image overlay plane feature in the Intel i830 notebook graphics chip. This hardware feature is important when running CAD/CAM design applications and other software that make use of transient menus that "popup" on top of large, complex TrueColor main images. Without the hardware image overlay plane support, the popup menus erase a portion of the underlying main image, requiring re-rendering the entire image when the popup menu goes away.

The new software support was developed by Xi Graphics with the cooperation of the Intel Corporation, and added to the Silver and Platinum Editions of Xi Graphics' Summit v2.2 Series of laptop graphics sub-system products. Full- function demos of Summit v2.2 Series of X servers and graphics drivers for use with the X Window System used by UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems are available for free downloading and testing from Xi Graphics' Web site. License Keys to convert the Summit v2.2 demos to permanent product can be purchased on-line.

Summit v2.2 products support the latest Linux releases from RedHat, S. u.S.E., Mandrake, Slackware, etc., as well as Solaris (on Intel) v9.

A license is required for each computer on which an Accelerated-X Summit driver is used as permanent product. Prices for Summit Laptop License Keys range from $99, depending upon the driver. Quantity discounts are available.

Customer support, which the Company claims is prompt, courteous and competent, is also free via phone and e-mail to its Denver, Colorado facilities.
