Intergraph and DNV Software Offshore Industry Solution Shortens Time to First Oil, Protects and Manages AssetsNew Integrated Lifecycle Approach Boosts Design, Construction and O&M Productivity
HOUSTON, May 5, 2003 - The Process, Power & Offshore division of Intergraph Corporation <NASDAQ: INGR> and DNV Software today jointly announced integrated lifecycle software for concurrent engineering, design, modeling, analysis, construction and operation of offshore oil and gas production facilities. Primary components include the advanced Intergraph SmartPlant(r) Offshore, the well-known DNV Software SESAM and Nauticus along with facility operation management systems and proven Intergraph outfitting tools. Software for outfitting includes support for instrument and electrical engineering, piping and instrumentation diagrams, procurement management and related disciplines. The combined offering unifies engineering tasks of previously disparate project phases in a single environment, enabled by Intergraph workflow, integration and lifecycle engineering data management architecture. The initial release will support floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels and will be available to key customers in late 2003. Subsequent planned releases support all types of offshore designs including fixed, tension leg, floating and spar installations. The DNV Software FPSO Package provides conceptual vessel and topsides design, modeling and strength assessment through SESAM and Nauticus while SmartPlant Offshore encompasses all 3D modeling functions for detail and fabrication design of hull and topsides. Intergraph of Huntsville, Ala. And DNV Software of Norway announced and demonstrated the software at the Offshore Technology Conference, the world's largest offshore industry event. Intergraph today also announced SmartPlant Offshore in a separate news release. For offshore engineering and construction firms, the software offers cost and time savings derived from work process improvements including concurrent global engineering as well as automation for productivity and design re-use for standardization. Increases in productivity, design integrity and automation for fabrication translate into shorter time to commissioning. For offshore facility owner-operators, the offering provides a data-centric model of the facility including a comprehensive lifecycle information repository for use in maintenance, modification and operation. The combined offshore industry solution provides the capability to perform concurrent design engineering across disciplines and organizations, manage change, avoid duplication of effort and automate repetitive tasks. The software is designed to answer the global business imperative to shorten time to first oil through fundamental work process improvement. FPSO Package Bridges to Detail Design The DNV Software FPSO Package provides a fully integrated system for early design and strength and fatigue analysis of the entire interacting system of hull, topsides, moorings and risers. The package is offered in different configurations, ranging from initial design and rule check packages to advanced systems for modeling and analysis of the integrity of the FPSO, topsides, hull, mooring and riser systems. The FPSO Initial Design Tool application, with minimum input, provides accurate wave load analysis and midship bending moments and shear forces for use in main scantling analysis and steel weight calculation. The FPSO Package also includes sophisticated analysis for mooring and riser design for any water depth. Workflow begins with the FPSO Package and continues into the detail design and fabrication phases with Intergraph SmartPlant Offshore, which helps ensure design integrity, resulting in a complete definition of the FPSO for electronic handover into operations. Intergraph SmartPlant Offshore provides full multidiscipline design functions and addresses conceptual and detailed design of hulls, topsides structures and outfitting, plan approval, production planning, manufacturing and construction engineering. SmartPlant Offshore features a single 3D model for concurrent, multi-site engineering. The data-centric, rule-based, integrated 3D modeling environment -particularly when combined with SmartPlant software for outfitting- aims to streamline work processes, appreciably lower manpower requirements and material outlays and significantly reduce overall facility design and construction costs and schedules. The architecture provides full access to current engineering data and is the foundation of a shared repository for all design, construction and management information accessible to all authorized users. FPSO Life Cycle Manager Helps Reduce Operational Risk Combined Solution Promotes Competitive Edge Gerhard Sallinger, president, Intergraph Process Power & Offshore, said, "The Intergraph and DNV Software combined solutions represent a focus of the very best skills and most advanced technology available. DNV Software expertise in the marine industries is well known as is Intergraph's leading position in topsides and plant design. This combined experience will create true advances in productivity not only for offshore design, engineering and construction but also operations and maintenance." "The proven DNV Software solutions combined with the advanced Intergraph SmartPlant Offshore technology will enable offshore contractors and shipbuilders to significantly improve design and construction productivity and provide early decision support capabilities needed to gain a competitive edge in today's market," said Managing Director Elling Rishoff, DNV Software. "Over the next five years, the industry is expected to design, construct and commission approximately 80 FPSO vessels consistent with continued growth in global deepwater production. To meet these engineering and business challenges, DNV Software and Intergraph are comprehensively integrating information and workflow throughout the entire lifecycle with initial focus on FPSO vessels."
