WASHINGTON, DC, May 1, 2003 - Senator John Glenn, co-chair of the Space Day educational initiative, today announced at the Space Day Opening Ceremony held at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum that PTC, the product development company, will be providing design software in support of next year's Space Day 2004 Design Challenges. "I'm delighted that PTC, will be providing design software to support next year's Design Challenges," said Senator Glenn. "It will be a wonderful resource for all of the students."

The Space Day Design Challenges, created by the Challenger Center for Space Science Education, offers students in grades 4-8 the opportunity to work together in classrooms, at home, or in youth organizations to develop "solutions" to real challenges faced in space exploration. Over the years, thousands of students around the world have participated in the Space Day Design Challenges. PTC's sponsorship will add an exciting new element to the Design Challenges experience by offering students, for the first time, a real-world tool to solve problems through 3D design.

John Stuart, senior vice president of education and partners at PTC, said, "PTC welcomes this opportunity to invest in the future of space-related product design. The students who participate in the Space Day Design Challenges are the engineers of the future."

Ralph Coppola, executive director of the Space Day Foundation, which supports Space Day educational activities, added, "PTC's approach to encouraging kids to solve exciting design challenges with technology used in industry is exactly what is needed to inspire them to study science, technology, engineering and math. We hope that many of the children who participate in this exciting program will go on to careers in engineering and aeronautics."

This sponsorship is made possible through PTC's global Design and Technology in Schools program, in which more than 8,000 teachers are preparing a new generation to succeed in a technology-driven world.

Established in 1997, Space Day is supported by more than 75 Partner and Associate organizations representing prestigious nonprofit, educational, governmental and youth organizations; major school districts; and leading cable, media, technology and aerospace companies. The award-winning Space Day educational initiative inspires students' interest in science, math, engineering and technology through the wonders of space.
