Needham, MA April 23, 2003 PTC (NASDAQ: PMTC), the product development company, today announced that United Defense Industries, Inc.'s (NYSE: UDI) Armament Systems Division (ASD) has purchased 900 seats of PTC's Windchill for product lifecycle management (PLM). Windchill will allow United Defense's ASD to facilitate work between employees and to align itself more closely with its customers in various branches of the Armed Services on a multitude of Department of Defense contracts. The software shipped during PTC's second fiscal quarter (ended March 29, 2003.)

Having already standardized on PTC's Pro/ENGINEER design software, the addition of PTC's Windchill provides United Defense's ASD with a tightly integrated product development system for product design and collaboration. United Defense engineers can design products and share that design information both internally and with members of the Armed Forces and Department of Defense for efficient product development.

"Our engineers have experienced the benefits of true electronic collaboration for the last 7 years managing multiple document types," said Reg Hubbartt, IS manager at United Defense. "They have another 15 years managing CAD data. Our engineers are mature PLM users, demanding tools that are user friendly and that provide the opportunity for integration of information with remote users and customers. We look forward to this new relationship with PTC and to using the Windchill solution."

"United Defense recognizes the advantages inherent in an integral PLM system," said Paul Cunningham, executive vice president, Worldwide Sales at PTC. "By designing and collaborating in a single environment, United Defense and all of its external partners will be able to add value to the product design and development process, reducing costs while bringing higher quality products to market."

The Armament Systems Division of United Defense is a leading developer of land and naval combat systems and precision munitions. Today's products include production of the Mk 45 Naval Gun System and the Mk 41 Vertical Launching Systems and Mk 41 missile launching canisters. The division is leading the design of the Advanced Gun System and the Advanced Vertical Launching System for the Navy's new DD(X) destroyer. Additionally, the division is leading the design efforts for the Non-Line of Sight Cannon (NLOS-C) for the Army's Future Combat System.
