Leica Geosystems Continues Sales Momentum in Automotive IndustryAutomotive Quality Control Makes Quantum Leap with New Wireless, Armless T-probe
Norcross, GA April 7, 2003 The Metrology Division of Leica Geosystems announced today it will deliver two state-of-the-art laser tracking systems to DaimlerChrysler in Europe. The Leica LTD800s chosen by DaimlerChrysler will be used for industrial inspection and precision measurement operations at the Mercedes-Benz production factory located in Rastatt, Germany. The LTD800 offers the fastest measurement cycle in the industry for high point density (3000 points/second), and the longest measurement distance for large volume work (0 -131.234 ft.). Leica Geosystems leads the industry with more than 1000 tracker systems installed worldwide in the toughest, most unforgiving industrial environments. DaimlerChrysler purchased the new systems in anticipation of the release of Leicas unique T-Probe technology scheduled for delivery later in 2003. The T-probe is a laser tracking accessory that gives engineers and metrologists unrivalled flexibility and six degrees of freedom to measure and inspect deep inside components and tools with undiminished accuracy. The T-Probe is an armless and wireless probe that can be used for on-demand inspection and measurement of virtually anything, anywhere. The device delivers a 0.1 mm length accuracy in a measurement volume of up to a full car size, and is compatible with the LTD800 or LTD700 laser tracker systems. We are very pleased that Leicas new T-Probe technology is attracting premier automakers like DaimlerChrysler, states Nicholas Bloch, Vice President, Global Marketing & Communication. The T-probe is a genuine technological revolution in the field of metrology. This extremely versatile product is destined to become a critical quality control tool for the automotive and related industries. Testament to this statement is our pre-order log for a dozen installations mostly in the automotive sector. This technology will enable us to significantly expand our marketshare in the industries that depend on state-of-the-art precision measurement capability. About Leica Geosystems Leica Geosystems is an internationally leading developer, manufacturer and distributor of solutions that capture, visualize, and process spatial data using the most advanced technologies in the marketplace.
