NEWTON, Mass., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Graphisoft US, originator of the Virtual Building(TM) concept and the world's most experienced developer of Building Information Modeling (BIM) solutions, today announced the availability of its white paper, "The Graphisoft Virtual Building: Bringing the Building Information Model from Concept into Reality."

The Virtual Building, as defined by Graphisoft and used with its flagship product ArchiCAD(R), enables architects to leverage the Building Information Model -- a complete database of building information -- to create sets of documents of a building's design and simulate the physical building before construction begins. Long before the releases of other applications that claim to provide an integrated environment for architectural modeling, ArchiCAD's BIM has enabled architects to design buildings, easily produce coordinated documentation sets and bring real-world projects to fruition. Tens of thousands of buildings across the globe have been designed, documented, and constructed using ArchiCAD, giving Graphisoft unparalleled expertise and knowledge in developing BIM technology.

Available at www.graphisoftus.com/whitepapers/, Graphisoft's white paper explores the concepts and technology behind the BIM, the resulting benefits gained throughout the building process in leveraging the BIM, and examines the future of the virtual building. The paper also delves into the limits and discontinuous process evident with traditional 2D computer-aided drafting (CAD) programs. In a recent Webcast debate that discussed the Building Information Model, other industry vendors validated Graphisoft's vision for BIM, noting that its main purpose is to generate well-coordinated, accurate building design and documentation information.

"We are uniquely qualified to assess the role of the Building Information Model. Since its founding more than 20 years ago, Graphisoft has delivered ArchiCAD's Building Information Model to more than 100,000 customers worldwide," said Al Moulton, president, Graphisoft US. "BIM technology represents an evolutionary process change in the building design industry. Our primary goal with ArchiCAD is to enable architects to produce their complete documentation - the actual end-results - quickly and efficiently for their clients."

Through its Building Information Model, Graphisoft also supports the International Alliance for Interoperability's (IAI) open building information exchange format standard, IFC. The IFC format is the only exchange standard designed to provide full access to all of the object information in the BIM. As a result, information within ArchiCAD's BIM is accessible for both design and downstream use and can be viewed in different formats by multiple members of the design team, such as owners, contractors, structural engineers and mechanical engineers.
