Cutting Collaboration Costs and Improving PLM with New Software

LISLE, Ill., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the evolution of today's manufacturing industry and digital "build to demand" marketplace, T-Systems Inc. announces the launch of s!CMI and eCMI, new versions of its popular CATIA Metaphase Interface (CMI). CMI is the first and only software solution to integrate the popular CATIA computer-aided design (CAD) and Metaphase product data management (PDM) applications. S!CMI and eCMI are designed to facilitate stronger collaboration between OEMs and suppliers throughout the product design process while reducing cost.

S!CMI provides a "lean" interface that lets suppliers upload and download product structure information to and from the OEM. ECMI allows access to the product design process via the Internet from anywhere in the world.

T-Systems, a division of Deutsche Telekom Group, will introduce s!CMI, a low-cost version of CMI for suppliers and OEMs, at the COE (CATIA Operators Exchange) Spring 2003 Conference & TechniFair in New Orleans, Mar. 30-Apr. 2, 2003. At the conference, T-Systems also will launch eCMI, the new Web-based version of CMI. T-Systems will demo s!CMI and eCMI from Booth #111.

"When you consider the high costs of a complete Metaphase implementation, design collaboration can cost suppliers anywhere from $200,000 to several million dollars," says T-Systems' Vice President, Manufacturing Industry, Thomas Salva. "With s!CMI, T-Systems has lowered the cost of collaborative manufacturing by eliminating the supplier's need for a complete Metaphase PDM implementation."

ECMI's introduction is meant to address the trend toward the "extended enterprise" in which applications must be accessible from multiple and changing locations. "For manufacturers with multiple facilities and a mobile workforce, eCMI provides cost-effective, browser-based access to key product design data," added Salva.

"T-Systems' CMI, and now S!CMI and eCMI software help to improve overall product lifecycle management by providing a way for suppliers and manufacturers to collaborate more affordably and efficiently," said Greg Gorbach, Service Director for Collaborative Manufacturing and Architecture at ARC.
