Miba Implements PTC's Windchill DynamicDesignLink for Design-to-OrderSlide Bearing Leader Also Replacing 2D CAD with Pro/ENGINEER
NEEDHAM, Mass., March 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PTC(R) (NASDAQ:PMTC), the product development company(TM), today announced an agreement with Miba, the market leading slide bearing company based in Laakirchen, Austria, with production and sales offices around the world. Miba is replacing its existing 2D design software with PTC's Pro/ENGINEER 3D mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) solution. In addition, Miba has installed Windchill DynamicDesignLink, PTC's Web-based collaboration software for companies that produce products with many design variations. Windchill DynamicDesignLink allows end users to interactively customize and define "designed-to-order" products. This Web-based solution provides significant value to manufacturers developing products that are engineered to a buyer's specific performance requirements or have initiatives around mass customization, product line rationalization, or design modularization. The software was implemented with support from PTC global services at the Miba location in Laakirchen. The introduction in Connellsville, USA and other global locations started in January 2003. Miba manufactures slide bearings for the automobile and shipbuilding industry including friction lining and highly precise sinter shaped parts, where quality and accuracy are key. Miba will use Windchill DynamicDesignLink and PTC's Info*Engine(R) software to create a product portal which its global teams can use to collaborate, sharing customer requirements and production documents in order to speed products to market. Miba salespeople can order products from the product portal to fulfill specific requests. Miba's part designs, created in Pro/ENGINEER, are used globally to fulfill a variety of needs. "Our customers count on fast reactions to their inquiries, including increasingly more detailed requirements," said Dr. Ing Norbert Schruefer, general manager of the Miba slide bearing division and a member of Miba's senior management team. "Our customers also expect small lot sizes and low- priced solutions. With our Miba Global Design product portal, we will be able to guarantee rapid turn around on our proposals with automated quality reviews. Miba Global Design is currently one of our most important IT projects. We see PTC as a strategic partner, offering us solutions that provide fast return on investment." Windchill DynamicDesignLink is a design-to-order solution for manufacturing companies that want to manufacture customized products and to reduce the associated engineering expenditure. Sales reps, distributors, dealers and customers can be given access to design products online, not just by choosing pre-defined options but also by changing specifications such as size, flow, performance or capacity. The Miba portal can identify existing standard and variant parts, so that they do not have to be recreated. On the basis of the on-line specified requirements, the appropriate product models and production documents can be derived automatically. If the customer accepts the configuration, Windchill DynamicDesignLink automatically produces the appropriate parts list and initiates the working processes, ensuring quick results. PTC (NASDAQ:PMTC) develops, markets, and supports software solutions that help manufacturers win with superior products. PTC is the world's largest software company with a total commitment to product development. The company services more than 32,000 customers worldwide.
