Certified Gold Product Status

Leuven, Belgium, March 4, 2003 - Capvidia today announced that FormatWorks, its computer aided design (CAD) translation, repair, and healing product, has achieved Certified Gold Product status for SolidWorks^� 2003, a leading three-dimensional (3D) CAD software solution. This is the second Certified Gold Product from Capvidia in the last six months.

FormatWorks helps solve data incompatibility problems that can occur when 3D models are imported from other CAD products. FormatWorks offers automated import, repair, healing, and translation, and checks the quality of the model. FormatWorks features Capvidia�s proprietary 3DVision technology and provides complementary extensions to SolidWorks software.

FormatWorks is very easy to use since it is completely integrated into SolidWorks software. Most of the repair and healing capabilities are fully automatic, while manual operations are intuitive and easy to use. FormatWorks verifies and improves the quality of models created in SolidWorks or those imported from another CAD system. FormatWorks extends SolidWorks file import capabilities with formats (IGES, VDA-FS), provides model geometry check (VDA4955, AIAG D-15, JAMA), automatically verifies and improves a model to a valid SolidWorks model and features alternative file export capabilities (IGES with CAD system flavors). Faulty SolidWorks models can be easily repaired with minimum user interaction.

FormatWorks Features

• Geometry Quality Check: Based on the automotive standards developed to ensure compatibility between different CAD systems. Supports the following standards:

• Europe - Verband der Automobilindustrie. (VDA) 4955

• North America - Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) D-15

• Japan - JAMA

• User Defined � Defines an individual company�s standards to suit its own personal application.
  FormatWorks automatically checks the model geometry and topology based on these standards. All model flaws are automatically detected and shown on the model. The geometry check can be performed on native SolidWorks models and those imported from other CAD systems. Geometry Check provides users with powerful functions verifying 3D model quality before sharing it through collaborative engineering, archiving, or passing it to sub-contractors. Models that passed the Geometry Check will not cause any problems in SolidWorks. Operations such as: model scaling, solid construction of consistent finite element mesh, and preparing the model for rapid prototyping or NC will be smooth and problem free, allowing users to stay within predefined budgets and time lines.

• Data Import: FormatWorks supplies an additional IGES translator, as well as native CATIA, CADDS, and PROE translators.

• Model Tolerance: All operations performed on the model preserve the accuracy and the original model tolerance without any model deformation.

• Automatic Repair and Healing: Automatic verification and repair and healing of over 40 different geometric and topological errors that can occur during translation.

• NURBS Improving: Automatically detect and reconstruct complex NURBS surfaces to ensure a 1 to 1 translation for SolidWorks to avoid breakup of these surfaces into smaller patches when translating directly to SolidWorks.

• Powerful Surfacing Tools:

• Trimming � FormatWorks allows users to trim surfaces that belong to a solid body. This capability is not available in SolidWorks.

• Create � Users can now construct new surfaces from open or closed contours.

• Recreate � This feature enables users to create a new surface to replace a faulty surface. This allows all openings to be closed in a single step.

• Surface Unification or Merging � This feature allows the joining or merging of neighboring surfaces while preserving accuracy and the original model tolerance. Surface unification is important in simplifying and improving geometry definition when preparing models for CAE/FE meshing or CAM.
