EDS PLM Solutions Announces Systems Libraries Capability with Solid Edge Version 14

PLANO, Texas, 3 March 2003 � EDS PLM Solutions today announced the availability of its new Systems Libraries capability within Solid Edge Version 14, EDS� industry-leading, value-based computer-aided design (CAD) software solution for the mainstream market.

The new Systems Libraries capability defines, stores and reuses cohesive sets of parts, plus their associated features and constraints. The initial application allows automatic addition or removal of material when placing a system into an assembly, ultimately making users more productive while reducing costly errors.

"Grouping parts in the Systems Library instead of in sub-assemblies will let our design engineers focus on components as functional systems," said Solid Edge beta tester Chris Oesterle, a member of the CADD support team at Liebert Corp. in Columbus, Ohio.

Fundamentally, a system is a set or arrangement of related items that form a whole. Previous sub-assembly naming conventions retained parts, but not associated constraints and features, and therefore didn�t consist of the "whole" model. Basically, they lacked key information when placed into assemblies, requiring further action to accommodate interferences. But, because Systems Libraries can retain any information associated with the system as a whole and apply that information, the power of the application is unlimited.
