Technology Answers And "Hithru" Team Win Defense Manufacturing Excellence Award

SAN JOSE, C.A., February 25, 2003 - Technology Answers, Inc, a leading developer of automated feature-based machining applications for the Numerical Control (NC) software and services market, today announced its CIMSKIL Technology is a co-winner of the highly prestigious national Defense Manufacturing Excellence Award 2002.

The award was presented to the team that participated in the High Throughput Manufacturing Program (HiThru) sponsored by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS). The team won the award through its use of Technology Answers' CIMSKIL? Automated NC programming product.

Presented by the National Center for Advanced Technologies (NCAT), the award recognizes an individual, team, and small business in the defense manufacturing community for making outstanding contributions to furthering manufacturing science and technology in the United States for the past year. The award was presented at the 2002 Defense Manufacturing Conference.

In addition to Technology Answers, other members of the HiThru team are Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Cherry Point Naval Air Depot, Boeing, Sikorsky Aircraft and Cincinnati Machine. The program is managed by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences.

CIMSKIL's knowledge-based automated NC programming system was used to address the issue of long turnaround time for aircraft in maintenance. The U. S.'s aging aircraft fleet frequently needs replacement parts for which little or no manufacturing information exists. Reconstructing the manufacturing process data using ordinary tools and processes takes considerable time. Using CIMSKIL, the HiThru program demonstrated that it could provide dramatic reductions in manufacturing throughput time, which thus realized the program's aims: to reduce the time aircraft spend on the ground awaiting manufacture of spare parts.

CIMSKIL provides to NC programmers an array of automation aids that enable them to reduce programming and process qualification time. Programming productivity increases as high as 90 percent and shop productivity increases as much as 75 percent have been achieved.
