EDS Launches Solid Edge Version 14New Rapid Blue technology leads long list of enhancements opens new markets for industry-leading CAD softwareCompany introduces product in conjunction with Solid Edge Global Summit
SOLID EDGE GLOBAL SUMMIT, ORLANDO, Florida - 19 Feb 2003 - EDS today launched Solid Edge Version 14, its industry-leading, value-based 3D computer-aided design (CAD) system for the mainstream product lifecycle management (PLM) market. EDS made the announcement in conjunction with the fifth annual Solid Edge Global Summit, which opened today in Orlando, Florida. Tony Affuso, president of EDS PLM Solutions, is scheduled to address the conference today. EDS expects to ship the product in March, and to deliver all new features to customers under current maintenance contracts at no additional cost "Today, Solid Edge takes a new step forward with the announcement of Rapid Blue shape creation -- a technology that will attract designers of consumer and other products with complex shapes," Affuso said. "We believe this move opens up as much as 30 percent more market to Solid Edge beyond its well-established presence among machinery, electro mechanical and tooling designers. We look forward to continued expansion as more companies discover Solid Edges unique capabilities." Solid Edge Solid Edge from EDS is powerful 3D CAD software that allows manufacturing companies to Design with Insight and to reduce time to market, improve quality and lower cost. The exclusive Solid Edge Insight technology embeds design management capabilities directly within CAD, providing insight into design intent to the entire organization and enhancing collaboration. Insight, complemented by Solid Edges superior core modeling and process workflows, has reduced Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and their related rework by 50 percent or more. The extensive Solid Edge user community is comprised of designers at thousands of companies and universities, including, Amana, Philips Broadcasting Systems, Pella Windows, Alcoa, NEC Engineering, Volvo and Yale University using more than 135,000 seats worldwide. The Solid Edge Voyager Program includes 160 integrated complementary, engineering software applications and computer hardware solutions. Rapid Blue Leads Enhancements in Version 14 New Rapid Blue shape creation technology leads the list of enhancements in Solid Edge Version 14, and EDS expects the inclusion of Rapid Blue to broaden the appeal of Solid Edge into new markets. Solid Edges Rapid Blue approach to shape design puts the user in control by providing the shape the designer wants rather than the one the CAD system wants to provide. Solid Edge users can evaluate shape alternatives in real time and retain shape even through complex edits. Rapid Blue consists of a series of unique features including Blue Dots, Blue Surf, shape-preserving curves, dynamic editing and complementary surface blending, filleting and analysis capabilities for robust complex shape creation. More than just another surface modeler, Rapid Blue shape creation technology builds on the foundation surfacing capabilities released in Solid Edge V12 to launch a new application that frees designers from the systematic history-based constraints of other design systems. Additional Version 14 enhancements include:
"I was very surprised to see the large number of new features added to Solid Edge in such a short period of time," said Version 14 beta tester Christophe Furgerol, CAD manager for VAI Clecim in Saint Chamond, France. "Compared with other systems we have used, Solid Edge adds customer-oriented enhancements rather than non-usable marketing features. We are very comfortable with our selection of Solid Edge and its future as our design system." Added Ray Kurland, president of TechniCom Inc., "Solid Edge users now have the best of all worlds with a powerful solid and surface modeling system aligned with a sophisticated database system for managing product designs."
