EDS Launches I-deas 10 NX SeriesNewest Version of Product Development Software Represents Next Step in EDS' NX Strategy - I-deas 10 NX Series Supports the Value of Digital Decision Making; Provides Measurable Productivity Gains to I-deas Customers; Delivers Immediate NX Capabilities and Value
NEW YORK, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DARATECH SUMMIT 2003 -- EDS (NYSE:EDS) today launched I-deas(R) 10 NX Series, its latest integrated computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) software solution. EDS made the announcement in conjunction with the Daratech Summit 2003 conference, which opened today in New York. Tony Affuso, president of EDS PLM Solutions, is scheduled to address the conference on Tuesday. Along with EDS' Unigraphics(R) NX software, which the company launched in October 2002, I-deas NX Series is part of EDS' overall NX strategy to produce a unified offering representing the world's most advanced product development solution. EDS will showcase its NX strategy and demonstrate the powerful capabilities of I-deas 10 NX Series in a set of global seminars beginning on Thursday. Shipment to customers is expected to begin in the second quarter of this year. "I-deas NX Series is the next step in our overall NX strategy," Affuso said. "We are continuing to invest in I-deas to help customers meet demands of an ever-changing market -- a market challenging companies to produce more innovative, higher quality products. Additionally, as we continue to strengthen the applications within I-deas, we will pay particular attention to those areas we can leverage as 'best-in-class' technologies as we move toward a single, combined NX offering." Provides Measurable Productivity Gains As customers start to deploy I-deas NX Series, they will have the opportunity to realize measurable productivity gains by deploying new features, including: - - The new Part Component technology provides users with a new method of organizing part designs allowing them to be divided into logical portions that can then be designed separately or in context of the overall part. Part Component helps facilitate the easy re-use of features and geometry across the same part and helps users work on the same part by allowing each user to work on an individual component. - - An expanded set of capabilities addressing the most complex design and modification workflows -- including significant new, advanced filleting capabilities; and Assembly Reflect, a faster and simpler method for designing components in a symmetrical assembly. According to Mark Bown, senior engineer from Aston Martin, "Filleting is noticeably more complete and robust in I-deas 10 NX Series." - - I-deas NX Series brings significant performance and productivity enhancements in the area CAE. Users will see marked improvements in Section Meshing, which provides users productive and easy-to-use tools to deal with complex geometry. A new Model Checking Display function provides a persistent display enabling analysts to visually validate aspects of the model directly within the meshing environment -- a more comprehensive and convenient solution for model validation. - - The new release also enables locally mapped (or structured) meshes around inner loops and interior boundaries, and provides the ability to write analysis results sets into spreadsheet data files. "The ability to do mapped mesh functions around holes will certainly help us build higher quality meshes," said Greg Antal, senior technical Advisor, ATA Engineering. - - I-deas NX Series also provides broader support for other industry solvers, now enabling simulation of complex structure models using LS Dyna, Radioss and PAMCrash explicit solvers. "There are many new features in I-deas 10 NX Series that will definitely help our overall productivity," said Keith Irvine of Vertex Pacific Limited in New Zealand. Delivers Immediate NX Capabilities and Value "The advanced interoperability between I-deas NX Series and Unigraphics NX (via the NX Gateway) will deliver immediate NX capabilities to all our customers," said Chuck Grindstaff, president of PLM Products, EDS PLM Solutions. "We have significantly simplified the sharing of data between these two systems." "Being able to freely exchange common parts between the two systems has definitely made my life easier," said Tony Carpenter, Air International. "It's a real bonus to be able to use these best-in-breed applications as we work with various OEMs around the world." Additional value is seen in CAM as users can now employ Unigraphics NX CAM in the context of I-deas processes, achieving a 'best-in-class' design, analysis and manufacturing strategy. "The ability to apply Knowledge Fusion rules in our CAM applications will result in huge productivity gains," said Gordon Belt, Dart Container Corp. "It not only supports our machining standards and guidelines, but also embeds them." Delivers on Customer Requests EDS focused a significant portion of the development effort in I-deas NX Series on satisfying customer requests. One example is from Egon Welter, a customer from Siemens Power in Frankfurt, Germany, who said, "Specifically, the display performance enhancements, feature copy and assembly reference geometry all look great and will be a significant help to our process." "I find the I-deas 10 NX Series code to be even more stable than previous versions," Aston Martin's Bown said. "Additionally, EDS has addressed customer requests in the areas of error messaging, and the update within the history tree and material side within the construction operation commands can only help to speed up the modeling and design modifications of parts."
