Detroit Edison Goes Live with Outage Management System based on Intergraph InService SolutionInfrastructure and application prepare to handle harsh winter storms
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 12, 2003 - Intergraph Corporation (Nasdaq: INGR) and Detroit Edison, one of DTE Energy's largest operating units, today announced the successful rollout of an Outage Management System (OMS) based on Intergraph's InService solution. Detroit Edison is the nation's seventh-largest electric utility, serving 2.1 million customers in Southeastern Michigan, a 7,600 square-mile service territory (which includes the Detroit metropolitan area - home to the nation's auto industry as well as steel and other key manufacturing facilities). The OMS, which replaces a legacy mainframe-based system, went "live" after extensive stress testing confirmed production readiness. Tests included load and fail over testing and measured system response to unusually high call volumes - simulating the storm conditions that typically impact the region's electrical infrastructure. The InService OMS will help Detroit Edison reduce restoration time during power outages and more efficiently manage day-to-day network operations. In addition, it will analyze operating data to help predict and correct probable distribution network failures. InService is integrated with Detroit Edison's customer information system (CIS) to capture and serve customer service data and provide notice of electrical outages. According to Steve Ratkowiak, Detroit Edison manager of business applications, "Detroit Edison and Intergraph worked together to optimize system capabilities. We reengineered business processes to obtain the most productive use of the InService OMS, while Intergraph made several enhancements to support our extremely high call volume during major storms. These efforts paid off as demonstrated by months of stress testing, proving that our system infrastructure and InService are ready to handle a catastrophic storm." Intergraph served as both system supplier and integrator, assisting in the coordination of all aspects of the project, and working closely with an expert core team from Detroit Edison. Arthur Spencer, executive vice president of Utilities & Communications, Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions, said, "Detroit Edison and Intergraph have been business partners for more than 25 years and this project further demonstrates our cooperation and teamwork. We are proud to deliver this strategic solution to Detroit Edison." Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions is a leading geospatial solutions provider for the following markets: local, state, and federal government; transportation; utilities; communications; location-based services; photogrammetry; remote sensing; cartography; and military and intelligence.
