About IntelliCAD

The IntelliCAD software was developed as a "skunkworks" project by SoftDesk to be a 100%-compatible alternative to AutoCAD. After Autodesk purchased SoftDesk, the FTC required Autodesk to sell of IntelliCAD. Visio purchased and further developed IntelliCAD. Shortly before Visio was purchased by Microsoft, the company "gave away" the source code to the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium, which coordinates the continued development of IntelliCAD to this day.
