LineType Software Releases Distance and Area Measurement Plug-In for Adobe Acrobat and Reader
NASHVILLE, TN - LineType Software, Inc., a developer of electronic document solutions for designers and contractors, announces the release of version 1.0 of the LineScale plug-in for Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Acrobat Reader. The LineScale Plug-In brings precision measurement features previously available only on professional CAD systems to the desktop of every Acrobat user. "The Portable Document Format (PDF) is the fastest-growing and most widely accepted electronic document format in the world," said John TeSelle, AIA, President of LineType Software, Inc. "The free Acrobat Reader is already familiar to almost everyone who works on a computer. Now they can use the LineScale plug-in with Reader to take accurate and useable measurements from any PDF file." One of the most powerful features of the LineScale plug-in is its ability to "snap" the cursor to selection points in the underlying vector geometry of a PDF file. Point snapping is a mainstay of any CAD application, but until now it has been unavailable in a PDF measurement tool. By snapping the measurement cursor to endpoints, intersections, and other geometric entities, the precision inherent in CAD-generated PDF files is preserved and made available to end users. Other unique features of the LineScale plug-in include: Display of segment length, total path length, and enclosed area User-definable scale factors User-selected drawing and display units Metric / English unit conversion Foot + inch and fractional inch display User-definable display precision Orthogonal cursor constraints The plug-in enables contractors to perform accurate on-screen take-offs of areas and linear measurements and allows building owners or tenants to use the electronic intelligence of vector-based PDF drawings to evaluate architects' drawings and determine leaseable areas and critical dimensions. "Architects and engineers have been quick to adopt the PDF format for their electronic documents," says TeSelle, "because it's totally self-contained, it provides an accurate representation of the printed page, it works with any CAD or office application, and it's a secure and well-known format. We want to promote its use in design and construction. Our products provide a few extra features that the AEC market really needs to make PDF serve the entire workflow -- from design through approvals and on to plotting and electronic document management." A fully-functional evaluation version of the LineScale plug-in can be downloaded from the LineType Software, Inc. website. About LineType Software, Inc.
