HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Jan. 27, 2003 - Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions' Cartographic Excellence Awards program is now accepting entries. The competition recognizes innovative, technically advanced mapping projects and Internet presentations created by cartographers and mapping professionals worldwide using Intergraph's mapping and geospatial solutions. Intergraph customers as well as students are invited to submit entries by April 1, 2003. Participants may submit entries in three categories:

- - Category I: Plotted Maps - typically, thematic maps printed on a computer plotter for the purpose of analytical or interpretive GIS application presentations.

- - Category II: Printed Maps - lithographic maps printed on an offset printing press, such as topographic, reference, planimetric, composite, and specialized theme maps, including image maps. This category includes traditional maps, such as atlas maps, city plans, transportation maps, and aeronautical and nautical charts.

- - Category III: Internet Presentations - presentations produced using GeoMedia(R) Web products or IntelliWhere(TM) products.

Entries will be exhibited and judged during GeoSpatial World 2003, the second annual Intergraph GeoSpatial Users Community International Training and Management Conference, May 19-21 in New Orleans, La. First place and first runner-up winners in each category will receive a cash prize of $1,000 (U.S.) and $500 (U.S.), respectively, as well as complimentary registration to the next year's GeoSpatial World conference.

Judging will be based on design and technique; technical, innovative, and imaginative use of software and system capabilities; and aesthetic merit. Plotted or printed entries will also be evaluated on the quality of cartographic communication and Internet entries will be examined for the quality of analytical presentation.
